What is my Risk?
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:08:01 pm »
About 6 weeks ago I was briefly with a new partner (male - I am female).

We had vaginal sex with a condom 3 or 4 times - but he did not ejaculate any of the times.

He gave me oral several times, I did the same to him, and he ejaculated once (in my mouth, and I did not swallow).

We engaged in some genital to genital contact without condoms.

I didn't think we did anything too risky (as we used condoms for vaginal sex and he did not ejaculate) but I have since tested positive for Chlamydia.

I am worried about contracting HIV from giving him oral w/ejaculation, especially since he had chlamydia.  I did read through everything here and it said there are no documented cases of HIV from receptive oral sex and my risk is low. although chlamydia increases the risk due to increased viral loads.

I was tested for HIV (and other STIs) last week and I get the results in 2 days.  I am driving myself crazy with worry as I am not sure how I contracted chlamydia when we used condoms for vaginal sex and he did not ejaculate.  I know noone here can comment on issues other than HIV but I mention it as I think it's relevant I did something to put myself at risk...

Opinions on my risk of HIV infection?  Was 6 weeks too soon to have been tested?

Thank you in advance to all.

You didn't have a risk of contracting HIV in the situation you've provided.

Just make sure that the guy wears a condom everytime for vaginal or anal intercourse and  you will be well protected sexually as far as HIV is concerned.

All of the other sexual activities are risky only theoretically. In the real world of HIV evidence shows those cases in which infection is attributed to other activities never hold up under careful scientific examination.

Cheers.

Yoga,

Chlamydia is MUCH easier to become infected with than hiv - and chlamydia is VERY common, especially in young adults. You said, "We engaged in some genital to genital contact without condoms" and that's probably how you got it. While genital to genital contact without penetration (aka frottage ) is NOT a risk for hiv, it is a risk for other  STIs, chlamydia included. Sorry you had to find that out the hard way.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs. As long as your recent hiv test was performed three months or more past your last incident of UNPROTECTED anal or vaginal intercourse, you do not need further hiv testing at this time.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks very much for the info and Chlamydia explanation.

I've been researching a lot on the web, and it is really suprising how much incomplete/conflicting information is out there.  Basically, most websites will just give the boilerplate response of "use a condom for all vaginal/anal/oral sex to reduce STIs"

You are right, the frottage is probably how I got chlaymida.  But trying to weed through and find anything online that tells you it can be contracted that way is hard pressed.

I get the rest of my results at 11 tomorrow (HIV/hep b/c and syphillis) I already tested neg for gonnorhea and need to be re-tested for that and chlamydia in 1 more week, as well as HIV in 2 months assuming tomorrow's test showed negative (fingers crossed).

Thanks again for the info and taking the time to respond.  This is a greatly informational and helpful website and I appreciate everyone's dedication and time to assist in acurate HIV education.

I was having sex last weekend and the condom we were using came off inside me somehow (apparently we were not using it properly).  When we noticed we stopped.

He did not ejaculate.  What is the risk of male to female transmission via vaginal sex without ejaculation?

YogaGirl

I have merged your threads so please this one from now when you have any questions to ask..thank you for your cooperation.

I really don't think you have anything to worry about, up until the condom came off you were protected, and by your own admission you stopped having sex as soon as you noticed.
