Hello Cliff,

Certainly gives the more realistic view, instead of hired hotties playing volleyball on the beach...

I've never seen that one before. I think that speaks louder than any of the clever ones.

My problem with it, despite thanks to Cliff for pointing us to it, was the blending of side effects of hiv with side effects from taking medications for hiv/aids.  No one who has worked with the public would want to list side effects which MIGHT be caused by hiv since that only produces a rash of panic phone calls.  But on the other hand, it would have helped to educate anyone who still believes that the path is easy after being infected to clearly use the images to connect them more directly (a diaper? please) to WHY they are possible side effects to some medications.  Does this not, in part, take us back to the 'look' of someone with hiv/aids that we were posting about a week or so ago?  Win

It's a fine line the big pharma companies walk with their advertising....I've always thought it might keep more people from becoming poz if they did show ads such as this....and I could pose for one!

But that wouldn't work for them.....they want to be able to say "take Combivir and you can be buff and gorgeous", not "take Combivir and you can go as a skeleton for Halloween with no costume"....

just sayin

Hey Cliff,

It is definitely a reality check. However, each and every one of us needs to continue to retain that positive perspective in our lives as well.

Effective, maybe.  But  everyone thinks they're indestructible, that it can't happen to them.  And I know guys who can work, travel and look good, so its not 100% accurate is it?  In that sense its more of a scare tactic.

I was surprised, somewhat, that none of the faces/bodies on the main page are female. It does give an impression that the disease only affects men, perhaps even just gay men. I guess this form of raising public awareness is just one tool in the whole toolbox. Thinking about it in that way, makes more sense to me, in the grand scheme.

Wellington, it's the grant that was used which targets specific groups, such as gay men in the same way that studies we have done target only gay men, not because they are the only ones getting infected, but because we need a close look at them apart from others, such as heterosexual men or women or African-American men, gay and straight.  Win
