It's a gay hotel... Has anyone ever stayed there? I'm going to Vegas, and it is an option, but I'm apprehensive about it.

Hi Dancer,

Have never stayed there but I have heard about it. If you do go and stay at the Resort let us know if you enjoyed it.

Honestly, because when I see the words "gay resort"  I think scary old fat men walking around in various stages of undress or leather.  I see myself not being able to feel comfortable relaxing by the pool because old dudes would be wiggling their peckers in my face.  I know, I'm being silly and way stereotypical, but. with my luck. I'd book it and that's exactly what it would turn out to be...

You haven't had an original thought in your life, and on a second note, have you ever looked in the mirror lately???????????..

Dancer Boy needs to go to his room and be locked in for a year or two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stayed there about 5 years ago, with my boyfriend, Ed.

It was basically a Motel 6 that had a nice little grotto pool and hot tub - and a dark porn room on the first floor, where one could retreat if they couldn't sleep at night.

Unfortunately, it's not really walking disance to the strip.   We almost got bashed trying to do this. :)

The 'resort's' driver, whose name I can't recall, was a twacked out perv (usually I admire these qualities in a person) who kept hitting on my bf (not that I cared - but he seemed to think I might).

The sheets were nice and clean, and the room was nice, so far as a re-vamped super 8 motel goes.

If i were you, I'd find out from one of the local bars where most gay people stay.  In retrospect, I would have enjoyed staying at Mandalay Bay, more than the Blue Moon Resort.

Good luck.

I have to say that the only "gay resort" I stayed in was in San Juan, and it was an incredibly scandalous time in my hotel room.  You had to buzz your local boys up, and the front desk could be a bit shady with this ritual so somehow I befriended the management and was pretty much given full run of it all.  They regretted all of this on the last day when the San Juan police showed up and demanded that I come downstairs and explain why a well-known ex-con was walking around the neighborhood with a pair of locked handcuffs on his wrists.

It's not my fault that we lost the key.  Oh, and several of the week's tricks witnessed it all from a distance in the adjoining ocean front bar... mucho giggles were had at my expense, natch.

No, you are not being silly and stereotypical -- you are being ignorant and rude!  oh but someday, you too, shall be old (at least, one hopes so), where on earth shall you be able to go on vacation then??

My partner and I stayed at the Blue Moon a couple of years ago -- it was "OK", I don't need to stay there again.  I'm happy to report that there were old men, young men and every age in between.  There were fat men, and skinny men.  There were cut men and uncut men.  Shall i go on???  I would suggest you go someplace else, where you delicate sensibilities won't be forced to see "old, fat men".  WTF

Oh -- and none of them were wiggling their peckers in my face (well, maybe one and his partner were doing it, but my partner and I didn't mind  - and he CERTAINLY knew how to wiggle it ;D )

Now go to your room and write "I will not given in to my ageist tendencies." 500 times.

As a man who has never been in such good muscle tone and works in a leather bar, I'd have to say that a mature, confident man in his late 40s would find pale, flabby twinks to be singularly unappealing.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to offend or anything like that.  Which is why I was so leary about this post to begin with.

I'm not a twink and I'm not in fantastic shape.  I simply was implying that debauchery was not really my scene either...

Those of you that offered me valid input, I appreciate it and it has helped me make my decision.

Again, never meant to offend... I should have chosen my words more carefully... Hindsight...

Danny....

certainly nothing to apologize for.  You were certainly not out of order in talking about your taste in men.  Bucko doesn't care much for twinks.  YOu don't care for the old man.  What's the dif?

But, to answer your question.  I stayed one time in a gay resort and decided never again.  They're overpriced and rarely up to minimum standards.  Just because it's gay, doesn't mean it's nice.

I would stay closer to the strip.

Hi Danny,

Have you been to any other gay 'places'?  By that, I mean gay camp grounds, cruises, other resorts, etc?  I haven't been to the Blue Moon, but have visited Parliament House in Orlando for a few hours.  They sound similar - an older motel / motor lodge past its prime, not in the best location, and not competitive in terms of amenities.  That sounds like most queer bars and clubs, actually.  You know, often tucked away in not-so-savory locations.  As others indicate, there will likely be all types - tall, short, Hispanic, white, black, fat, skinny, etc.  You really can't blame guys for approaching you, as they don't know what you're interested in.  I know one guy at the camp ground who's young, in shape, etc.  If a guy doesn't weigh 275-300+ lbs, he'll speak, but that's all.  I'm not saying you're overweight, by the way, but using it as an example.  I'm just friendly to guys I'm not interested in and keep steering the conversation away from what they'd 'like to do to me' topics.  If it becomes too tedious, I may just say that I'm not interested, but I haven't really had to.  Most guys don't want rejection and, in my experience, tend to avoid it.

Having said all that, I never really found much gay community in Las Vegas, but it's still one of our favorite vacation spots.  We haven't been since '03, which is like a whole generation in Vegas - things are always changing.  We don't stay on the strip.  It's always too crowded, traffic sucks, and the hotels are so big that it takes forever to walk from one place to another.  We generally stay downtown.  Lady Luck is smaller, older, and always clean.  The rooms are a decent size, too.  The Four Queens  ;) is another downtown hotel that looks decent.  To us, the downtown area is just a bit more comfortable.  Try to get a package to L.V. if you can.  They include hotel and flight for not much more than the flight would cost alone.  I'm sure you're planning on seeing some of the shows there - budget $50-100 for a show for the big ones, and book tickets in advance.

There are a few smaller gay bars there.  There is a gay / nude beach on Lake Mead that's fun.  It's hard to find, and you'll need a car to get there (or a 'buddy' to drive).  If you need any other L.V. tips, PM me.

I also read that later comment to mean that all "scary old fat men" were debauched.  I know he's saying he's not saying that, but then he followed it up by, frankly, something worse.

I find the entire thread confusing now actually.

One can only wonder why?  >:(

Honestly guys, while his choice of adjectives, et al may not be the best to use, he was trying to be honest with everyone here and get some relevant feedback so that he might be able to have some pleasant new experiences. It honestly feels from the response that there is a lot of insecurity and anxiety out there about becoming older. Some from the original poster and some from the responders. Hell even I get that way sometimes admittedly. But, why not try to not take so much offense, correct his language tactfully and then respond with some info. You get more with honey than with lemons and it helps to diffuse the situation and ultimately dilute the "sting" of the description.

Lighten up a little guys!

P.S. Danny, If you do check out the Blue Moon, I'm interested in hearing about it as I was tinkering with the possibility of a visit sometime in the future.  :)
