20 yr old guy had protected anal and uprotected oral (he was the giver) with a poz BF on meds. Poz didn't tell him of his status & he found out via the meds, got over very big scare/shock, they are in love and decided to stay together but are not having sex until results come back. Guy tested neg on Eliza 5 weeks following last contact. What is the accuracy % here? My urge is to tell him he can relax but I want a second opinion. Thx!

Your friend had protected anal sex and that means there really was no risk of HIV transmission. Also the risks associated with HIV infection and oral sex are purely theoretical and since people have real not theoretical sex I can't see any problem here.
On that basis, I'd say there was no need to test as a result of this encounter. So I'd be happy with the 5 week result. If he really wants he could wait out the full 13 week period, test again and collect the inevitable negative result.

Yup. Well if these chaps are embarking on relationship they need to talk to one another. Good communication is the corner stone of a successful relationship and all that. So long as they use condoms for anal sex there really is no need for them to abstain during this time.
And, of course, if your friend wants to stay negative condoms should be used for anal sex all the time. No exceptions.

Dragon, latex condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission. They really do the job as long as they are used CONSISTENLY.
I agree with Matty. These guys need to have some sit down conversation about HIV just so they are very clear about where they are each at.
The average time for seroconversion is 22 days. All but the very smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after a possible exposure. Given the details of this incident that you've reported, that negative at 5 weeks is pretty solid. Issues like bad oral health, ejaculation in the mouth and faulty memory seem to factors which play some part of those reports of transmission orally. In the real world of HIV there is much more evidence disproving risk through longterm studies of sero-discordant couples in which no sero-negative partners who gave oral became infected.

I don't know what language(s) your friend speaks, but it might help to know that the AIDSMEDS lessons are also available in spanish.

if he speaks spanish, like Matty said, the lessons are there in spanish, and my ex-current-bf said it was very well written and very good. If he speaks french I have translated part of the lessons already, I can send it to your friend, or if he needs a translation, let me know. If he speaks Latin, it may be difficult :)

mmm, thanks a lot you guys, but we are talking more about the Semitic than the Latin language family here.
And I have to clarify that in my other "online life" I am often the voice of reason (& aggrevation) on another HIV forum, which is a lot more conservative (or should I say reactionary) than this one, so I get flamed a lot, but I still keep the answers coming....
