Benin - Prof. Isaiah Ibeh of the University of Benin, on Tuesday announced the development of a new drug that can cure HIV and AIDS.

Ibeh, who is the Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of the university, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin that the herbal drug had undergone ``series of successful tests''. ``We are at the threshold of making history, in the sense that we seem to have with us something that will permanently take care of what over time seems to have defied all solutions.

``We are talking about the latest discovery of an oral drug made from plants extraction in Nigeria for the possible cure of the pandemic, HIV and AIDS virus.’’

According to him, research on the project was started in 2010 and culminated in the development of ``Deconcotion X (DX)–Liquid or Bioclean 11 for the cure of HIV and AIDS''.

``The existing retroviral drugs are intervention drugs for the management of AIDS but our new discovery is a possible cure.

``We have tried to look at the product first; its toxicological analysis and discovered that it has a large safety margin. ``This means that if animals or human beings are exposed to it, they will not suffer any serious harm at all from the exposure.

``It also helped us to know the quantity we can conveniently give to animals and will feel secure that nothing untoward will happen.

``We have also done the bacteriological analysis on it, after which we looked at its effect on the virus and the result was quite revealing and refreshing.''

Ibeh also said that the drug had been exposed to series of medical examination both in Nigeria and in the USA. He added that the drug had performed well on patients with the HIV virus and had shown evidence of total restoration of damaged tissues.

``The result showed an increase in the body weight of the individual administered with DX. ``The body weight was statistically significant when compared with the control group.''

He said that further tests were being conducted to determine ``at what point will a patient become negative after being administered the drug?''.

``This verification is necessary because it is what is used to measure whether infection is still there or not. So we need to know the siro-convention time.

``But preliminary results showed that of the five latest patients orally administered with the drugs, our findings is that up to seven months , three of them were siro negative while two were sill faintly positive.’’

Ibeh appealed for support from the Federal Government and relevant bodies to assist the university with relevant equipment to sustain the research.

It is my lucky day  :). I gots me a beautiful mail-in spouse and I have been advised of a hefty amount of money heading in my direction.  Now I'm getting cured of teh AIDS?? I won't even have to disclose my current "siro-status" to the new love of my life.  What more can a lonely AIDSy queen ask for?

Har dee har har.

On a serious note, Joseph might well believe this.

And anyhoo, wouldn't that be grand.

I feel like doing an Auntie Mame routine, redecorating in mid-Century Hollywood Regency meets Bantu bush villa.  We can get Sandra Bernhard to revive her Nina Simone "I am Peaches" act and all the Premières Dames d'Afrique will come, and Barbara Bush. And all them AMFAR bitches. And Liza Minnelli.

I'll get a new Thierry Mugler frock that informs Buba, Iro and Gele with Betty Page.
Sharon Stone will be jealous.

And Georges Soros can monetize the cure and make billions for Nigerian universities and the health care system.  It will be the new Dubai.

Google Meigs County Ohio and you'll discover just how much that area of the western world believes in herbs. ;D

The atrocious spelling is what initially made me think of Nigerian email scams. That and it's news coming out of .... wait for it ... Nigeria. I'm too smart for my own damn good sometimes. ;D

Not so sure about that lately - I think reading reports of The Herbal AIDS Cure on the interwebbies fried my brain. Or maybe just sautéed it to a rich, caramelised, golden-brown.

I think the misspelling refers to MATTS odd post which is gone now. Something about Kenyan HIV cures using radioactive sublingual Pez-like pellets, and an orange "fire dust" - rumoured to be Chantal Biya's hair extensions, pulverised and blessed by the Pope.

The Nigerian Professor who was widely reported to have found the cure for HIV/AIDS a few days ago has recanted his claim. In a five-paragraph statement, Professor Isaiah Ibeh, Dean, School of Basic Medical Science of University of Benin (UNIBEN) expressed regrets over the publication of his acclaimed discovery of a drug that could cure HIV/AIDS, saying that the publication was a misrepresentation of what actually transpired.

“The true position is that some observations of our Research are preliminary and the research is still ongoing. I am very sorry for the embarrassment this has caused the University of Benin and Professional Colleagues, realizing that there are procedures of reporting such Scientific result,” he said.

Authorities of the University had earlier debunked the claim made by the Professor in an official pronouncement saying the University was not carried along in the research and the Professor did not follow due process.

In another development, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has begun a probe into Professor Ibeh’s claim that he had discovered a herbal drug capable of curing AIDS. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, told Punch on  Thursday that the agency had invited Ibeh to prove his claim. He warned members of the public against buying the drug because it had not been subjected to standard scientific protocols.

I may be seeing things differently buh please permit me to air my view.

Why has there been so much negativity about this post, I've wondered.....okay it's Josephs 1st post and he brought news he got off the Internet to the house regarding a cure....that was his crime, yet we call him a scammed, he is not the Professor that declared the cure, he didn't host the website, he just posted it for us to see, hence I wouldn't think the cynical comments are necessary.

Imagine if actually he is positive and probably excited by the news, yet we have shut him down, he has been rejected by the world cos of his status and also has been rejected here too by us who should have atleast tried to understand where he is coming from. Rather than make him recoil in shame.

In my opinion I think we owe him an apology.

My 50cent.

Skycee -- your perspective is actually refreshing. You're right. No one knows who Joseph is and why he chose to share this information.

Hopefully, if Joseph is HIV positive and still optimistic (as possibly evidenced by sharing the initial report), he will return.  Optimism is helpful in the face of HIV.

It is the message, rather than the messenger, that is causing the jesting and jabs. And, many of the long-term posters have read other similar cure stories.

Understanding cuts both ways -- posters would hope that Joseph would try to understand what has created their time-tested filters for such information.

Joseph is certainly encouraged to post more -- as one person noted, it's a tad unusual to make a first-time entry of a news article rather than personal information, but it may simply indicate a want to share.

Har dee har har.

On a serious note, Joseph might well believe this.

Its the message not the messenger.

Though in the case of MATTS now disappeared post, which really was about radioactif pellets to maybe cure aids -- it was also the messenger (MATTS) because someone here called out the spellng and that invited the comparison to email spam scams, and then all logic broke down as they do in a thread like this.

Unfortunately it happens regularly that people start ridiculing ignorance but don't pay close enough attention to context or who is really saying what.

I never even saw Matts post before he edited it down to nothing. As an alleged educator, you should have noticed the spelling errors in the news release itself. Those are the spelling errors we were talking about. ("siro-convention" being the most obvious one.)

Speak for yourself, dahlink.

But yes, Skycee, nobody was implying that the OP is a scammer - we were implying that the Nigerian professor is a scammer. And it looks like we were right.

Mecch, are you having a difficult time admitting you were wrong when you accused us (twice) of complaining about Matts spelling when we were in fact complaining about the spelling in the original news release? Or do you still not have a clue what has transpired in this thread? Sucks to be you, I guess.

Sure I was wrong guessing that it was MATTs' spelling in his disappeared post.  The content of MATTS post was really out there, content wise.  The spelling and grammar could be the result of a non-native speaker.

You would be a stricter school marm than I am, since just a couple spelling mistakes, in Joseph's first cut-and-paste article, are no big deal. Its the stupidity of the professor's quotes and the article's uncritical setting, that sinks the release.

The post was copied and pasted from an article that was posted on SEVERAL pretty mainstream Nigerian online news sources, including Vanguard.  I've seen the same level of lexis in Huffington Post.

My first post in this thread raised the question that Joseph might believe this article (since it was clearly found in a standard news source).

Why my rementioning this, just as skysee so gently explained, is "egregious" (wow such learned lexis!), escapes me.

In the past I have posted the same remark in threads where someone posts something ignorant or misinformed and everyone jumped on the poster.  Including jumping on 1st posters.

In fact, dachshund's non-stop flamebaiting and twising of my words, and putting words in my mouth over and over when i never said things he claims I have said, is tiresome.  And from now on, for every flamebait of his that catches my eye, I will respond with at his level of logic and dialogue, best represented by a silly meme.  And watch. I will only do this when its clear baiting.

Let's start with your obvious lack of reading comprehension. First of all it's Skycee, not Skysee. Second, what the hell is a non-native speaker? If you read carefully it was me and not "Skysee" who used the word "egregious" in regards to your hypocrisy. "Rementioning" and you call yourself a teacher? Your posts should be used in every remedial English class on how not to write.

So how did I arrive at my conclusion that you are the last person in the world that should correct anyone concerning grammar? A little of your posting history should suffice. On more than one occasion you have chided posters about their grammar. Asking posters what you ridiculously call "non-natives" if English is their second language. It's condescending and borderline racist. You've actually had the audacity to rewrite someone's original post and then give them a nice little colonial pat on the head. "There isn't that better, you poor little non-native." You started a thread in Off Topic lecturing others about their, there, they're grammar. And Heidi I hate to tell you, but you have some of the worst grammar I have ever had the misfortune to read. Don't let it go to your head because I really don't read that many of your posts. The ones I do read are usually just barely above an incomprehensible mess. Here's a thought, try reading someone's post before commenting. I'm tired of this, but if you read carefully you might get the point.

Oh and one more thing while I have your attention. Quit trying to be a Miss P wannabe. She's got game and you don't.

Illiminati Cliques
I was guessing the misspelling was a funny pun - limited people - the Illiminati.

Bobby Moynihan makes deliberate and funny malapropisms on his Second Hand News bit on SNL.  I have an uncle who does this so non-stop, that people only catch half of them at best and suspect he's dumb.

My father was a HUGE fan of the Bowery Boys and Leo Gorcey was the master of malapropism:
