First Home Repair
« on: June 05, 2010, 06:06:39 pm »
Last night I took my first shower in the master bath--something akin to showering with a watering can. I realized the diversion on the faucet was not only not working, the whole faucet was very loose too. I decided I would have to have a plumber out, but Santi said it was an easy fix. We went to Home Depot and I looked at faucets, and sure enough the instructions looked pretty simple. It was easier than installing a new shower head, which I'm pretty good at.  Woo-hoo, I feel so butch! Now I just need to caulk around it.

Tomorrow night is the first night I will actually spend in the new house. I wanted it to be with Santi tonight but the place is turned upside-down what with all the boxes and crap everywhere. I'd be up all night unpacking and putting stuff away. So we did a little work around the house then went shopping for detergent, stainless cleaner, poo-poo spray, all things needed or that we need more of. I also drove him around to show him the closest variety store, grocery, liquor store etc. so we won't have to drive 10 miles back in town just for some deoderant or Limoncello if we just need a few things.

We'll stay in town tonight, then I'll be off to the country, ready to mow the lawn on Monday.

I also got stung by a few fire ants today. I have rose bushes! and the flies in the country are really bad. Swatting them is my new favorite blood sport.

It's either a remedy for your most embarrassing moments or a realistic smelly imitation of your most embarrassing moments. :o

Congrats on the new house, Creighton. Are we invited to the house warming party?

Edited to fix embarrassing formatting. Wonder if there's a spray for that?

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Sounds like we may have been fixing faucets at about the same time!  I came home the other day and my shower was practically on when it should have been off.  After seeing that simply turning the knob didn't work, I Googled the scenario and found that my knob has some kind of plumbing, something or another thingy that can be replaced.  After watching a DIY video on youtube, I pulled the old one out and matched it at Loews.  I had everything fixed by the time my wife got home.  I was so damn proud I pulled her into the bathroom to show her.... she wasn't all that impressed, thus ruining a perfect excuse for celebratory sex.

If we didn't know how to do stuff and had to hire people, we would never get anything done.  We couldn't afford it.  Well, my partner is the one with the skills.  I'm learning a lot.  We've knocked out walls, redone kitchen, do our own dry-wall work, plumbing, tile work, etc.  We are about to start on the bathroom this summer.  We have friends who want us to do work for them, too.  We did a huge wooden, picket fence for a friend.  That was a lot of hard work.  His sister wants us to redo her bathroom, but she may have to wait.  We are going to have to hire someone to redo the driveway.  We don't feel comfortable pouring a new driveway.  It would probably start cracking right away if we attempted it.

Having these projects helps me to get HIV off my mind and feel better.  I'm hoping I feel good and have the energy and motivation.
