Symptom of HIV?
« on: October 28, 2009, 05:03:16 pm »
Hello all, just wanted to say first that it is great to see a helpfull site like this to help people out.
Here is my story,

About 4 weeks ago had met up with an individual for the purpose of sex, when getting started he was fingering my anus and he went in one time with his penis. When he went back to fingering me I heard a pop sound,I looked back and he had pulled the condom off.I then stopped everything, and told him, that was it,time to stop and I left. Now when he did go in the one time,I am pretty sure the condom was on.Through the weeks I have went to get a hiv test done (about 3 weeks after Meet) and it came back neg,I know that it says here to wait at least 28 days,as for symptoms, the only thing really I have beens suffering from is constipation, and a burning around my anus.I checked out some causes and I believe I have proctitis, though this has not been confirmed by a doctor.I do also suffer from ANXIETY (Unfortunatly too)so these last few weeks have drove me crazy.I have also noticed seeing a mucus like substance in my sool (no blood that I can see).I feel like I have to use the bathroom all the time, but it is just constipation or gas.I do think that I did rip when he was fingering me.I have also been feeling kind of irretable, and short winded.I am going to be going to the doctor either tonight or tomorrow for the anal irritation.Am I worrying for no reason,or is it worth going to get retested in a month or so for HIV?Thanks in advance for any help.

From what you have described it seems to me that unprotected penetration actually did not take place.

Certainly none of the symptoms you are experiecing are in anyway suggestive of HIV infection, but then you should also know that neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms is ever the way to judge your HIV status. If there has been a genuine risk such as unprotected anal intercourse specifically, then the only way to know your HIV status accurately is by getting tested. That should be done at 13 weeks after the risky incident for a final, conclusive negative result.

In your case I don't think testing is necessary. The soreness you have experienced even from fingering is not unusual for someone whom I am guessing is not accustomed to having anal sex. And if that is true about your lack of experience then it would also explain the tremendous anxiety that you're having about this new experience.

If you decide to get tested it would ONLY be to reassure yourself. You can get tested at 6 weeks if you wish. A negative at that point is very unlikely to change at 13 weeks to positive.

As for your symptoms, discuss them with your doctor. I don't see this as an HIV situation. Stop playing doctor on yourself and diagnosing yourself.

In the future should you want to try anal sex again, make sure that you are well lubed before it happens. And of course make sure the guy is wearing a condom. As long as an insertive partner is wearing a condom both partners are well protected against the sexual transmission of HIV.

This time I think you are worrying needlessly.

Cheers.

Thanks for the quick reply, everyone around me as said that the computer and the internet is what is wrong with me.Yes it was a first experience.WONT HAPPEN AGAIN!!This has been quite an experience that I dont want to go through again.I am probably going to go to the doctor still though, just in case, and I will also be going to get tested again in 2 to 3 weeks. It probably wouldnt be that bad but I am on meds for my anxiety, and of course I am out now.So this is of course affecting alot of the things I think I am going through.I just needed a little reassurance that everything is probably ok.I am trying to look at this in a good outcome, but I am still worried,I just hope that one STUPID mistake doesnt make me pay for it for the rest of my life. Thanks again for your advice.

You're welcome. I expect you to come out of this experience ok as far as HIV is concerned. As others have apparently said to you, staying off of the net and not searching for disinformation to feed your fears  is a good idea.

Cheers.
