Title: HIV and puberty / hormone changes
Post by: minismom on November 11, 2007, 02:34:25 pm
I know Mini is only 7, but has anyone gone through or know of anyone who has gone through puberty w/ HIV?  i was wondering if the HIV effected the hormonal changes that accompany puberty.  This may sound dumb, but she just lost her 1st tooth.  Her "rights of passages" have always been later than her siblings and same age peers.  Does HIV cause puberty to start later?  Does it make it more rough (more cramps, PMS, ect.)?  Are any extra precautions going to need to be taken when she does start her period?  What about the meds she's on? They already have a toxic effect on her brain and development.  Will these be exaserbated during puberty?

It's nice to have a space to ask questions like this.
