Not sure this is where I should be posting this, as I'am still pretty new on this site.
But I just registered both my husband and myself for the Aids Walk Atlanta in Oct.
This is a HUGE step for my husband since his HIV diagnosis last March. We have not disclosed his status to anyone , its the biggest daily struggle we have is feeling like "outsiders" but in our own little world, having to keep this big secret in.
Hoping maybe meeting some other HIV+ men and women and hearing their stories might help with this.
I'am very hopeful that we will also meet and exceed our donation goal too :)
I'am so excited to be doing this .
So to make a long story short anyone else here participating in the walk??

I was diagnosed last year and did not participate in the Philly AIDS walk just due to lack of knowledge, but now I know you only need a minimum donation of $45. My mom alone will donate that. I have full intentions of starting it this year and every year for as long as I can. I just need to find some more outlets for donations.
So that being said, I know exactly where you are standing, feeling similar feelings. I hope you do find others you can relate to, sponsor a lot of money, and start a healthy beginning to this.

Participating in an AIDS Walk doesn't mean you're HIV+, so I don't know why there has to be this "secret" issue. There was nothing preventing you from walking in one previous to your HIV diagnosis. I walked in them pre- and post- diagnosis, and I know plenty of gay and straight HIV-negative people that participate. So, no, there's no need to be fearful of these gatherings.
