It began with a trip to the Doc for a thrush Condition. I started doing research never thinking it was HIV... Well when the medication wasn't making the thrush go away, the doc asked me if I was Autoimmune.. Im like whats that?? He said HIV +... I was like no ,,,cant be,...well after loosing sleep over this I went out and got one of those home access tests...I called the number and was transferred to a counselor.. He was like the test was positive...I couldn't believe it...started panicking , am I going to die??will I get to see my little girl grow up...a million things rushed through my mind. Thank GOD for these forums as they are the only support and help I have been getting. The wife knows and she has tested Negative so far but praying for her... And please all of you do the same for her.. I still have not come to terms with this, just trying to be positive, and the more I read up on this Disease it can be managed. I have quit smoking dont drink and I guess the hardest thing I am having to give up is my BUDZ... I sure could use some advice from some of you out there... I feel so ....Sh** I dont know what im feeling ...Already went to the ID doc and he is waiting on my first labs.. Immediately wanted to start me on Atripla..should I take this stuff in the morning or night?? and WTF !!  so expensive... So many thoughts, decisions, whoa.... BREATH !!!   I really appreciate some feedback from you guys and gals who have been in my shoes...Thanks a bunch..

you're right  Mtd

You are going through "WTF, I GOT AIDS" shock and you need to find your equilibrium.  In other words, chill out, find like-minded people to talk with in your area or near by and get that stress off your chest.  Knowledge is everything but so is community and friends you have that know what you are going through and can emotional support you.

You don't need to stop smoking pot.  In fact, smoking pot is beneficial to those who are HIV positive.

Good news is that you will LIVE!!!!   :P   Bad news?? Ummmmm yeah sometimes having to stop The Walking Dead and take your meds can be annoying...... The most important thing to know is this.... You Are Going To Be Ok!  Get yourself educated, look for a support group if needed (Believe it or not, talking face to face with ppl newly diagnosed or even ppl that have been living with this helps)  You will realize you are not alone in how you feel and that others feel differently as well!  I'm sorry about the bad news... 2 years poz here I'm 30.... first year was rough both health and mental but here I am ready to tackle life :)  You will too!

Thank you all for your replies... It has been a rough 2 weeks and have been trying to educate myself as much as possible. I have come to terms that this is a condition that I will manage and will live a long healthy life with. Its amazing how this discovery has now changed the way I will live and care for myself now. Some take so much for granted thinking that they can do whatever they choose to their bodys and not have to worry about it till its too late... Again I thank all of you for your comforting comments.Still waiting on labs and well...It is what it is...

Really?  Fascinating.
