I guess Facebook make every one else's lives seem more interesting than our own. We gave FB up years ago for security issues and realization that time spent on it could be better used elsewhere. Who wants to play FarmVille?????? not.

On a different note, how many of you see people texting over dinner with friends?
Why do people feel they cannot enjoy their friends that made the effort to show up for the meal instead of the damn computer buddy? When our kids were young, of course they wanted cell phones when they turned 16 saying they would need them for emergencies. I told them that if there was an "emergency" they could ask anyone near by to use their phone. Now the kids phones cost them over $150 a month! This month I might have used the cell once. It was not an emergency.

I can see how this can be true.  I have a few friends, who are well-off.  They literally go on vacation every month.  I see the replies cloaked as jokes, but are really jealous friends.  Seeing fancy homes can make someone barely scraping by feel bad.  I have been a tad envious, from time to time.  I am mostly envious of friends who have remained very close, over being envious of material things.  I will feel bad that I didn't keep in touch.  I feel the friends I was once very close to are now like strangers in many ways, while they are taking vacations together with friends they barely knew back then.

I know many make fun of Facebook.  But, can't this be seen on any social platform?  Even here?

I have a friend on facebook who is majorly bi-polar and he gets depressed by everyone else's social life and defriends me (and others) every three months or so, then refriends us when he is feeling better. I feel very bad for him as he's been institutionalized at least twice that I know of from suicide attempts, and I've known him for about 15 years now.

Honestly though I don't see this issue, for the average person, any worse than being exposed to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kylie Jenner just got a $125,000 Mercedes SUV for her sweet sixteen.

FB keeps me in touch with my friends and my advocacy groups while informing me of events and training that I could participate in. There are all those ignorant Tea-bagger Republicans though that make me mad (not sad); but there are all those funny George Takei memes to take the edge off.

me, I love facebook!

I think it has to do with what a lot of people value in life more than Facebook itself (which is really just a medium).  Our society values money and possessions.

There are no tea baggers on my facebook friends list. I don't know any. I have several annoying hyper-libtards on there though that drone on and on about Obama spying on their underwear.

Haha, I used to do that. Now I just don't use Facebook.

Sometimes yep it does.
It is a very "active" social media platform but not one where I will be open about my status. With some mobility (and money) limitations it would appear I don't want to be engaged in life. I do but the vast majority of fb's have no clue what + life is like.  With health, mental well being, family situations, money again, Dr visits Facebook I have found sometimes is more of a stressor.

I try focusing more on local asp's support groups and trying to make the best of those ( another topic altogether )!

I CAN SAY WHEN I STAY OFF FB FOR 3-4 DAYS, I FEEL BETTER!
If FB had a poz following, that would be great.  But, annominity.  After 23 years poz I'm still in the closet to most, out of self-preservation.  :-)

OFF TOPIC.,....... Any "where's every from"  threads lately?  Me, Tampa Bay area.
Best wishes everybody!
