scavenger hunt survivors..
« on: August 14, 2009, 12:36:39 pm »
Just a quick congratulations to all who went on the scavenger hunt around the city  of Boston..great way to see the city and have a lot of fun.. with only one or two exceptions the Boston natives are a friendly  crowd..even the Mets fans who refused to wear a Red Sox cap were good sports.......  I propose that "google" be banned from any event planned for next year.......
particular congratulations  and thanks to my "AARP" team that was first to return to the restaurant on time..and did a super job of collecting almost everything....

hi nick

You're google rule sounds like a good one, I suppose, but, sorry to say, I'm afraid we can't fall back on that as the reason for losing.  No matter how many of the trivia questions we answered we still would have lost as we only took 7 pictures.  I'm still at a loss as to how that happened.  I remember walking for miles looking for that friggin' sporting good store and the rabbits in the park and I don't think we even got close.

I also don't understand how someome like Mark, who was on our team, managed to take home the winning trophy.  He's always just inching his way to the top, isn't he?

Oh, by the way, it was soooo good to see you again.

No wonder you missed a picture, the one in the park was a sculpture of DUCKS, not rabbits.

Ducks, rabbits who knows Joe, all I know is we found the damned donkey !!!  :)

Anyway, with a slightly older team, as Nick points out, our Golden Guys team did pretty damned good I must say.  I would call our squad Sparky, oh no that nickname is taken, isn't it RAB?  ;)

hey joe

'ducks' ....  'rabbits'   what's the dif?;D

At that point in the game it was apparent we wern't going to find either one.  We walked from the 'tea pot' back to the Boston Common to Tremont St over to G. Washington's statue.  I'm surprised we found the statue.  It's obvious we should have read through the list before we started and we would have found those right away.  Our only hope was that it was neither 'ducks' nor 'rabbits' we were looking for but the dogs living at the animal shelter next to our hotel.  Alas, that was not the case. ::)

I gotta know - where was the teapot?

Our team, known as Team Mama and "HE" ( Hubby and Ethan), didn't do so bad either.  Of course we were late, but hey, what true lady isn't?  We found that not everyone was willing to help us out with stuff until we (meaning I) asked if they'd ever heard of the Amazing Race.  Now, I NEVER said that we were on the show, I just asked if they'd ever HEARD of it. ::)  You'd be amazed (pun intended) how willing people were to help us out after that. They even took pictures of themselves helping us.

Then there was that reinactment, we got caught up in, of the battle between our Founding Fathers and Scotland.... ;)

All in all this was one of the highlights of the trip.

Now how have I missed this thread???  Oh well, I missed the thread but won the scavenger hunt, along with the rest of my team, of course (sorry, Jan -- you know I just HAD TO............)

I'm actually surprised that folks found the Steaming Teapot so hard to find -- the list stated that it was in Government Center -- if you walked to the Gov't Ctr T stop from the Commons, you would have walked right under it.  It is hanging above the door into, where else, Starbucks.  Actually, there used to be an old local coffee/tea shop there -- not sure when Starbucks took it over.

Well, Nick did once upon a time live in Boston. But that was quite a while ago. We figured out that, if you added up the ages of eveyone on our team, our team was the same age as Boston!  ::)  8)

I'm kidding, of course, but we did find a very convenient Starbucks where I managed to down a grande  sized iced mocha latte' with soy milk, minus the whipped cream of course.

We didn't quite win, but we had fun, a few snacks and at least we found the teapot! ;D

HUGS,

Mark

Whatever.

I'm still waiting on my "MVP" Trophy for going above and beyond the call of duty, specifically for two instances:

FIRST, for getting on my hands and knees and acting as a dog with a lady and her bewildered poodle on the steps of the Massachusetts State House, only later to find out it wasnt even a photo we needed!

SECONDLY, for being sent into numerous T Stations to search for dead Charlie Cards (Does Boston have the cleanest stations or what?) and finally spying one on the floor of a waiting train only to jump aboard and find it was only a  scrap of paper and then in my panic  jumping back to the platform through the closing doors of the train nearly being whisked away to parts unknown....

Where's my TROPHY!!???

All this whining.....  now, while it is true that I knew 9 of the 10 locations above first reading the clues, I DID have to contend with leading RAB around town -- and you know how difficult SHE can be  ;).  Not to mention the Davids................  Fortunately I had Joe to keep them all in line.

And -- we were the ONLY team to get our picture with the 2 live lobsters -- it didn't take a Boston "insider" to get this done -- it only take a winning smile and few winks to convince a hostess to get us those lobsters (of course, she had NO IDEA................)

Speaking of trophies.

How the heck is it that a certain certain someone (Aztecan) (not to mention any names mind you!   >:(), ended up with the 1st place trophy?

I have it on very good authority that he actually stole it.

So if anyone reading these forums views a photo from (Aztecan) (not to mention any names mind you!  >:() of the first place trophy you should know this:

HE STOLE IT!

Edit to add:  I'm not surprised that WillyWump was eager to get on his knees.  I'm just sayin.   :P

RAB...I have no idea how it developed but somehow a first place winner trophy from the Boston Adventures Scavenger Hunt is on one of shelves above this very computer I type on...I truly know nothing of how it got into the hotel room I shared with aztecan, would you possibly know?...Anyway, somehow it wound up being in my luggage home on Amtrak....Funny how these things do happen, why I do declare!!!

I do hope RAB doesn't send out the little plastic trophy police across country to come get me !  ;D
Or what the hell go ahead and send them, might be fun!

I knew it was a mistake letting you room with that Aztecan.  He's led our sweet and innocent Jody into a life of crime!  Not just a life of crime but one which you seem to have fully embraced and are bragging about!

Oh don't you worry mister.  I've contacted the FBI, CIA, FDA, IRS, DOE, HHS, DOH, TSA, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Sherlock Holmes, and that French Inspector who's name I can't remember right now.

Your's and Aztecan's asses are grass!

The French man is Hercul Perot, I've contacted him and Charlie Chan, Agatha Christie, Charlie's Angels, The Mod Squad, The Rookies, SG1 and McMillan & Wife.

LOL..I screwed that one up.  At least the 2 names rhymed so I at least get 1/2 credit.

BTW, D, SG1 was disbanded.  It's now SG-Universe.  I may not know my french inspectors, but thanks to Hubby, I know my Sci-Fi.

I am innocent! Why, I don't know how that trophy became entangled in my shopping bag!  :o  Nor the stuffed lobsters!  :o :o :o By the time I discovered them, they had taken their proper place next to the bottle of flavored vodka, er, refreshments in our hotel room.

I was a paragon of virtue in Boston. Ever the standard bearer of taste and decorum, I tried my best to guide the less refined among us down a righteous path.

As for Willy Wump, I saw those lascivious looks he gave those boys walking past the hotel and the way he even started to follow one until he got busted!  :o :o ;)

But, I digress.

HUGS,

Mark
