I have ups and downs. The downs usually lasted 2-3 weeks. Since i've been tested poz it's been up, i'm not sure why. Chocolate is good when you lick it all over the body. I would suggest a chocolate fondue sex. Try it I did and ...... it was interesting :)

I wonder if the meds have anything to do with it.  Or age.

I don't know about the meds, and I'm not a woman. So I don't know how your body is working  :-[

You could post in the "Positive Women" forum and ask :)

Ya know, Betty, I have been wondering the same thing about myself lately. They say diabetes affects the sex drive in men and assumes it's the same in women. But since I haven't met anyone who catches my eye, I really don't dwell on it. I do feel sorry for the one who does....I'm gonna break his back and his dick... :o

I will do that.  I think I'm just frustrated.  Guess I should find a willing partner for the chocolate thing.  But I live in northcentral Indiana so where to find one is a task.   There's only one AIDS agency here and it covers seven counties.  I called them today to get the name of a good gynecologist and was told "ask your regular doctor."  How frustrating life can be at times!

I guess they tell you to ask your primary doctor so he can refer you to someone. I found my gyn by going to the ER. I know what you mean about finding someone. I don't go to bars and am not much of a drinker. And I really don't think support groups are meant for hook ups. I tell ya, what is a diva to do.... ;D

My doctor is a resident who will be leaving in a month.  Then I will have a new doctor etc. etc. etc.  I guess I need to find a permanent primary care doc.  It's really hard to find one who knows anything about HIV here.  There are only a couple and they are pretty full up.  But I will continue my search.  Right now I'm listening to Prince and maybe I'll go order one of the "Girls Gone Wild" shows from my cable provider (I'm bi by the way). ::)

Ooooooh, what Prince CD, ya listening to? My primary doc will be the first to tell you that he doesn't know much about hiv but has worked in my ID doc's office before he got his own office, so I know he knows a lil. I'm sure when you get a primary doc, he will be able to refer you to someone. I haven't met a doc yet who can't. Hey, I could care less about you being bi, if you like it, I love it. Whatever makes you happy.

You can borrow some of mine  ;D  ;D mine is a bit overactive and that can be frustrating when you dont get it alll the time...so ill gladly donate some drive.....

I dont know if this is an option but i was reading that women use small doses of viagra to boost sex drive. I dont believe its FDA approved for this purpose but i would suggest bringing it up to a knowledgable doctor. No sure if it has any interactions with any of your current medication...

On a side not if you are on an SSRI anti-depresant they are NOTORIOUS for killing libido. So if you take any anti-depressants and not willing to deal with this side effect then talk to you doctor and find an alternative

Hey Josh:
Thanks for the info.  I also posted it on the women's forum and someone said it could also be due to a lower testosterone level.  I just need to talk to a knowledgable gyn about it.
So, how much are you selling your sex drive for? :D

I think it has to do with the fact that I'm 23 years old. Workout regularly (raises testosterone levels), take my vitamins which keeps everything in balance, wellbutrin which is an antidepressant that actually boosts your libido a bit, and the fact im a bit OCD so I get addicted to thins easilly such as sex and many other things (but right now im only addicted to masturbation hehe)....

is one of those anti-depressants and SSRI (ex. zoloft, paxil, prozac) because if so that is more than likely the culprit....

you can try HGH and see if that helps im sure your doctor will be able to help :-)

Yes, actually I am on two SSRI's.  Plus my hormones are all screwed up.  So you don't think 41 is old?!  I have two grandchildren already (what can I say, my family starts early :D).

Maybe you can find a surrogate mother.. or artificial insemination or whatever it's called (it's way to early to get these terms right ;D).

its 11:40 where im at and im still not "with it" yet so dont worry.....

I could do that i suppose but im sure it would be hard to find a surrogate mother, for a gay male, who is "open-minded" enough to be inseminated with a "sperm-washing" from someone with HIV (but i guess its not impossible)....

but its ok i wouldnt be ready for kids for at least 10 years  :o...i refuse to have any kids unless im rich anyways lol ...not to spoil them but so i can afford education and everything in that aspect

I have been wondering about the same thing. I am only 44 and up until the last year I can get an erection but keeping it is not that easy. I have always had a good sex drive and I don't know why this is now this is happening to me, it is very embarrassing, and it is not easy to talk about let alone admit to a group of strangers. If anyone has ideas I would be very grateful.

My sex drive has been gone for quite a while now. IWhen I was younger I was a major horn dog on the prowl for a hole. Now I rarely even think about physical sexual contact. I don't think I've masterbated in over 2 months. It guess it isn't that important anymore...

I used to use viagra when i did drugs that did not allow me to get an erection and that worked wonders for me....not a good thing but hey the past is the past....

Again are you on any SSRI's? have you had your Testosterone levels checked (a big culprit for men with HIV).....

If you have a sex drive but problems keeping erections then viagra is a good option, if you have no sex drive then its a bit more complicated...

Maybe it was a mental thing then.....if your thinking "why isnt it working why isnt it working" then your to nervous/anxious waiting for it to work that you dont get an erection....

Viagra helps you keep and erection not get an erection...common misbelief....

but i guess there is always someone that it doesnt work on....theres always a freak out of the bunch  :-* lol

My erections are mostly strong and lasting.

Libido : that is the other question.
I do get aroused when I am close to my lover, but it is more of a mental thing.
Although just  touching him or kissing makes me hard as a rock.
I am quite sure it has to do with both being pos. I can really open up and let all of my protection shields ( mental) disappear.

To be honest : sex used to be the number one. That  desire has long diminished.
It is the heart I want to feel and love.

I heard of some southern boy that there is something like a 10 second love.. ask him about it..

Thanks for your help; I have not lost my drive the problem is keeping it going to the finish line. I had my testosterone levels checked and it’s in the normal range. The only thing different in the last year I have been under a lot of stress at home. I am in a relationship for 21 years he is negative but there has been 0 sex between us in 10 years. I am too embarrassed to ask my doctor for Viagra etc. because I don't need another lecture and working in the same facility with him I know how he feels about that stuff. I guess it will work itself out.

Does anyone know if chocolate is good for this?

I think it depends on the shape of the chocolate.  ;D

The last time I had sex was in January (a week before my seroconversion symptoms). Although I still help myself... ;) I do think HIV and age can play a factor in libido.
In my case I don't think HIV is playing a clinical / physical role... but a mental one... I don't feel as sexy as I used to.

Hoping you get your mojo back,
Mauricio.

Betty and Billy
You may be going through "Andropause" it's the mens version of "Menopause" in women. They both usually start in the early 40's. Ask your DR to test your testosterone and as you were advised Betty your hormone levels as well. If these levels are low that may be the culprit. I'm 46 and I went through the same thing and the anti depressants don't help either!!!

P.S. Billy, I prefer "Levitra" ;D

Hey Rick:
I am a woman though!  But I understand it could be my testosterone.  ("I am woman, hear me roar"...) :D

Betty, us gay boys need fag hags too.  ;) Now look what you have with us. You can ask us if we think that guy is cute and we'll tell you. You can ask about your hair, we'll tell you. You can ask about your cloths and how you look in them and we'll give you an honest opinion. You know we can pick out a set of pumps for you and you know you'll gook damn good in them and girl, when it comes to make up, who is better to ask than a fag. What more could you ask for? ;D

im donating some for free......it interferes with my day to day activities lol

I was the same way at your age. In some ways the slow down at 44 has focused me on more important things. For me it has been a relief. ;)

I spoke with my Dr. today and all I got out of him was watching his eyes roll inside his head. He did not want to talk about it and only said that the stress I am under is the likely cause and that when I get my next lab work in 5 weeks he will add the testosterone test to the list. I knew it was a very bad idea trying to talk to him about it as I know how he feels on this subject by working around him all it really accomplished was to make me feel very uncomfortable.
I agree with flight62 that it is probably a good thing and to start to focus my energy on the things that really matter and more important.

Billy I know how you feel talking to your doctor about it; mine got very uncomfortable and reluctantly gave me a T level test.  It was very low but still in the "normal" range, so she won't give me anything for it.  I forwarded her a bunch of literature about how hiv+ men T range needs to be higher because of the effects of the disease, but she didn't think much of it.

I have to say, though, that the subject of libido IS very important.  Sex drive is associated with drive in one's life in general, and also affects your personality and energy level.  Low(er) levels of testosterone will have negative effects on things other than your sex drive, so I encourage you to get it taken care of.
