Title: Am I infected?
Post by: krissy on September 11, 2011, 09:38:36 am
Hello,

I'm a hetero woman and had unprotected sex on Aug. 2. We didn't go all the way without a condom for a few minutes after we started I stopped everything and asked him to put a condom on. However I am aware of pre cum and know that it can infect us. The day after I talked about it with him and he said he never uses a condom!!!! That's when I REALLY started to freak out. 1 week later I got tested, though I knew it was too early but I couldn't sit there and do nothing. 3 weeks later I had 1 day of fever with a sore throat, had 2 days of loose stools and have been feelin' a bit of nauseated. So decided to get tested again in 2 dif labs just to b sure. The results came out negative. Could these symptoms b my seroconversion stage?  If the guy I had sex with is hiv positive is it 100% guaranteed that I was infected, even if we had unprotected sex for about 3 mins and he didn't ejaculate without a condom?

Thank you

Krissy,

Yes, you have been at risk but no, you are not 100% guaranteed to end up positive because of it.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative result must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Neither symptoms nor the lack of symptoms will ever tell you a single thing about your hiv status. ONLY testing at the appropriate time will.

You need to wise up and make sure your partner is wearing a condom for the whole act of intercourse.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
