Feds set new rules for fluoride:
I hate to rain on the parade, but call me unimpressed by the government's new fluoride recommendations.

For the first time in 50 years, the feds are calling for lower levels of this toxic waste in the water supply, and plenty of people are acting as if this is some big victory.

It's not -- it's just a distraction.

The feds are concerned about the growing number of kids with visible damage due to fluoride: Up to 40 percent now suffer from discoloration, pitting and weaker tooth enamel.

But if they really gave a damn, they'd care more about the INVISIBLE damage and order every last drop of fluoride out of your water -- because this junk has been linked to everything from brain damage to broken bones, and may even increase your risk of cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

And if you don't want to take my word on those risks, take it from one of the great granddaddies of the fluoride movement.

"The use of fluorine in tooth powder or paste should not be considered, because it is unsafe," said Dr. Basil Glover Bibby, an early pioneer of fluoride use. "Fluorine is poisonous and dangerous if administered by untrained persons."

He said this to Time Magazine... way back in 1940!

Just a few years later, he was urging fluoride in the water. Maybe he was exposed to too much of it himself -- because endless studies since his time have confirmed his original suspicion: Fluoride is indeed "poisonous and dangerous."

And while the feds might be able to fine-tune the levels to stop fluoride from turning teeth into an unpleasant shade of khaki, they can't stop what it does to the mind: At least two dozen studies have even found that fluoridated water leads to dumber, slower children.

Maybe that's why they still want to make sure it's in the water despite all this fanfare about lowering the levels -- it's much easier to control a nation of feebs and simps.

So don't let your guard down and don't relax -- your water is still being poisoned, with fluoride and a whole lot more and if you want protection you need to do it yourself: Install a reverse-osmosis water filter in your home.

And take Dr. Bibby's advice: Never, ever brush with fluoride.

Oh jeez, I read this conspiracy theory on Craigslist and can't believe I'm reading it on POZ. Seriously? They've been using fluoride in the public water supply for years and the average IQ keeps increasing so as they have to adjust the scale down to keep the mean at 100.

I know plenty of people who have drank fluoridated water their entire lives and are absolutely brilliant. The supposed studies linking fluoride to decreased IQ seem to be correlational. Correlation does not equal causation. I've drank fluoridated water, and used fluoridated toothpaste all of my 24 years and I have a genius level IQ.

I think this falls in line with the autism/vaccine conspiracy theory. A bunch of bullpoop!

It should be noted that he believes HIV is a virus manufactured via some curious splicing process by the US government.

OK. There are actually very few links about WIlliam Campbell Douglass which can be posted in this forum due to them being associated with HIV denialist and white supremacist websites.

Douglass is or was a member of the John Birch Society and was involved in racist, far right politics in the 1960s in the South of the USA. He is also a vicious homophobe.

Douglass' major claim to fame is that he believes HIV was invented by the US government as part of an international conspiracy to eliminate black people. He has authored a couple of books on this, which people can find via Google.

He asserts that vaccination is evil  -- this is how HIV was introduced into the human population apparently.

This renders him, in my opinion, an HIV denialist.

His other bugbears include (amongst other things) the dangers of pasteurised milk, that tobacco smoking is good for your health and of course the prescription strength idiocy associated with opponents of fluoridating public water supplies.

Frankly the best thing that can be said about anyone who subscribes to the views (and newsletters) of William Campbell Douglass is they are credulous in the extreme.

I remember a time when I would spend hours researching every idiotic and dangerous claim touted on these boards. Earned a lot of enemies, but have yet to be proven incorrect.

This last piece of work is just that. Frankly, I hope thatthe OP goes ahead and links to one of the denialist sites so that two problems can be solved at once.

Disgusts me no end to see people blithely putting others at risk from their ivory towers. I am sure HIV is a real inconvenience for them, but sculpting a fat, thick penis is a priority. And putting people at risk for major dental issues because of flouride is a piece of smugness that borders... no, it crosses the border, from scientific speculation to just plain crazy.
