false-positive and retest...
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:17:14 am »
hello...

i will get into it directly... about 5-6 months ago i had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex including fingering with a sex worker i cummed inside her mouth... after we finished i took a shower and noticed a cut on my penis...
after 21 days i took combo test (hiv 1/2 ab and p24) all negative...
after 28 days i took p24 and herpes test both negative...

after about 4 months i took massage from a sex worker also handjob using condom...

1 week ago i took test for hiv and herpes... herpes was negative but hiv was positive... the lab worker told me they did the test twice on their machine the number was "1.6" and one more on other lab's machine and the number was "1.8" and they will send the samlpe to test on western blot...
i felt like there's something wrong and i did a combo test (hiv 1/2 ab and p24) again in other lab all came negative!
then i went to another lab and took other combo test (hiv 1/2 ab and p24) and they told me that the sample is positive with the same number "1.6" and they will test it on western blot too...

now i have to wait 2 weeks to get the result...

i need your advice....
what are my chances?

At no time were you at risk of contracting HIV.

As long as the only activities were the ones you've reported I think those positives were mistaken. Which happens from time to time.

Based on what you have reported of your activities I would expect your latest test to be negative.

hello...

this topic is related to an old one:
http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=25364.0

so...

the result came back to the second lab and they called and told me it's negative...
and now i'm waiting for the first lab...

when i called the first lab asking about the result i told them that i got it negative from the second lab, then they told me even if it's negative i should retest after 6 months because the positivity wasn't high on elisa and maybe the antibodies is not detectable...

so i'm asking you again...
what are my chances?

no,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

As expected, you've tested negative. You don't need further testing - you didn't have a risk to begin with.

You ARE hiv negative. Get on with your life, making sure you use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently. If you do, you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple! Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

no,

I hope you know that you need to use condoms with your intended wife until she has also tested hiv negative and negative for any other STIs as well. You cannot know a person's hiv status by looking at them.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
