Title: Tim Horn POZ June 2010 Issue - PAWSITIVE

I was so excited to see Tim Horn on the June POZ issue with his babies Buster and Lucy! I haven't read the entire magazine yet but am getting ready to lay in bed and read most of it.... it's a a mag I always enjoy reading....

I know pets can have a tremendous impact... Shortly after my diagnosis I got a Dachshund and she has been a joy to have around...so loyal and always happy to see me.... even if I've been away for 5 minutes.... I come back and she acts as if she has not seen me for days!!!

It has def helped to have her around, to take care of her serves as a distraction! I have to walk her for her potty break so it forces me to go out for a walk and it's a great way to meet people! Just thought I would bring it up since it's our Tim Horn on the cover of it!

The 'kids" didn't exactly make things easy on Kevin McDermott (http://www.kevinmcdermott.com/), the photographer, but it was fun nonetheless. There are lots of great photos and stories included in the feature, as highlighted (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=32854.0) a few weeks ago by leatherman. Really touching stuff.

But now Lucifer has resorted to biting the man. It was gotten so bad that the man had to go to the emergency room and animal control was called. They were even thinking of putting Lucifer to sleep even though he has all his shots. And most would've let animal control take him but the guy still has Lucifer. I feel bad about this and I am wondering if Lucifer is doing this because I gave him away. He never did this while he lived with me. Any suggestions? Input?

   Cats can be pretty funny sometimes, temperamental souls possessed by the devil really (jus joking). I would suspect that Lucifer is acting out because he's not with you. I had a similar experience, before my wife and I got our pitbull we had this awesome bobtail cat named Bobbi. This cat was so friendly and acted like a dog in some ways. She would greet us at the door when we came home, slept with us at night, and she even fetched!!! When we got the pitbull we had to make a decision, and well, Bobbi's straw was short so she had to go ( i know I am a bad man).

   The girl I gave her to says Bobbi is the most unruly cat she has ever seen. The only time she sees the cat is when it's time to eat. I swear if the chick complains one more time on my facebook profile about the cat I gave her I am cutting her from my friends list.... lol

   If you wanna take a chance with Bobbi I can probably get her for you along with a bunch of balls she no longer fetches.....

But he wouldn't be biting down hard enough to draw blood and do the damage he is doing to the new owner. He would let me know if someone was at the door. But since I gave him away, I can't see myself with another cat. I was trying to get an iguana but they are banned in NY. I dunno maybe a Yorkie later on down the road or maybe a chihuahua...

I wish I could take him back but I would feel like an Indian giver (not using that in the racial sense but for lack of a better term). And also my bf is allergic to cats except for Siamese for some reason. But I really don't like Siamese cats. I didn't know declawing was traumatic for a cat. Aren't they put to sleep when the procedure is done? I miss my demon kitty and I just don't think there is another who can take his place.

I suggested it because it seems the guy is having a hard time with him and would be willing to give him back to you but if the guy is committed to Lucifer despite the issues then that's great.

As far as the declawing, yes they are sedated during the procedure. What I mean by traumatic is that afterward some cats have been known to become a bit unstable. But you have done the best for him and you shouldn't feel bad, especially if this guy who took him is committed to caring for him.

Of course a declawed cat must always be indoors since not having claws leaves them very vulnerable if they were out and about.

Mavis = ball of energy; thinks she's a dog (will even fetch!)

It was sad to read about Lucy, the brown boxer girl being ill but she has a great partner in Tim and the other animals like Buster, who can get off the ground pretty good at the beach I must say.

My friends Frank, Tim and Joe said I should get a pet. But when I went to the shelter the dog turned me down. :D

Anyway great stuff as we live and learn and love with our HIV diagnosis and how pets, with their unconditional love can make our lives, and theirs, that much more fulfilling.

LOL, what does that mean? There are so many dogs that need a loving homes, try again! There are also rescue groups but the animals in the city shelters are the ones most in need.

Losing a companion is always very hard. I always think it's a terrible shame that our pets (dogs and cats) live such short lives compared to us. Thankfully though, that too-short time we have with them is offset by the amazing love and friendship that's crammed into the years that we do have with them.

My condolences to you two for your loss of Lucy. :-*
