One of the paintings posted on the thread "The beauty of human body" belongs to the war of independence when the population of Madrid started to fight the French troops. That happened the 2nd of May of 1808. We are celebrating the 200 years aniversary. The disarmed population of Madrid was the first of Europe to win the battle against the French troops.

Velazquez´s most popular painting is "Las Meninas" which is like an instan photo of a spontaneous scene in the private life of the royal family. The painting makes the spectator feel inside the scene.

SOROLLA painted everyday scenes of the beaches of Valencia. These paintings are beautiful and the use he makes of light is astonishing.
