Mild Hypothyroidism
« on: May 11, 2009, 04:59:28 pm »
I was curious if anyone else has similar test results with their Thyroid Panel and what was done if anything about it.

In August 2008 my Thyroid Panel showed normal T3 Uptake and normal T4 and normal T7 but slightly high TSH (7.23).

In January 2009 all of the above were normal, including the TSH.

In March 2009 the T3 and T4 were again normal but the TSH was once again high (6.12)

Basically when I research this online it is defined as mild or sub-clinical hypothyroidism. My doctor wanted to go ahead and start me on thyroid replacement therapy but I wanted to hold off for now. I basically feel fine, no symptoms of anything, not on HAART yet.

My question is: has anyone else had similar findings on their Thyroid panel and if so, what did your doctor recommend as far as starting thyroid replacement therapy or not?

Thanks ;)

Hi.   I had lots of thyroid issues - starting with Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) and the symptoms that come with that:  heavy sweating, nausea, shakiness, racing heart, etc.   I had the radioactive ablation to kill the thyroid, which then causes hypothyroidism causing additional nausea, tiredness, etc.  But, the thyroid hormone replacement therapy has resolved all of the issues and is easy -- just a pill a day and periodic follow-up.

I'd sure follow the Doc's advise -- I was miserable until we got mine regulated correctly!   Good luck to you--
Bob

Thanks for the info., it helps.

Mine for now is mild and I really don't feel symptoms but I guess it could get worse unless treated. I read somewhere online though, that it could take 20 years to get worse!

It's good to know that the hormone replacement therapy is no big deal.

I'm in the same position as BobF.  25+ years ago they nuked my thyroid and now I take a simple little pill everyday.

Don't go by your numbers.  Go by the symptoms  You said you're feeling fine.  Leave it alone.  When you start feeling tired and run down all day every day, then I'd consider treatment.

Tell your Dr. thanks but no thanks.
