Thrush?
« on: August 12, 2015, 01:23:00 pm »
I was diagnosed in may of this year have been taking my meds consistently. I have had thrush twice before once before I was diagnosed and once while I was in the hospital with pcp. It has been 2 and a half months since I was discharged and I have it again.  Is this normal? How and why do I keep getting this is it something I'm eating or doing?  Have had a couple of bad days now (in my head) and feeling hopeless. Any info is welcome. Thanks

Hello,

Thrush in HIV+ patients is primarily associated w/ low CD4 counts.

It's not your diet, the problem is associated w/ HIV itself and your immune system. It's a common problem.

Speak to your health care provider about "Fluconazole" 100mg, daily, until you have successive CD4 counts well above 200 (or a cd4% above .14).

Take care,

DD

January 2014 CD4 = 5      .03%  VL = 1,800,000
June      2014 CD4 = 206  .15%  VL =            48
January 2015 CD4  = 211  .13%  VL =            71
June      2015 CD4 = 155  .12%  VL =             UD
July       2015 CD4 = 148  .11%  VL =             48

ojo       Hello there....welcome for both of you...yes, the previous poster is right, it is not your diet...I just to suck on some tablets called mycelex, ask your doctor about them, it might help you...do you know your numbers?, I guess they might be low because of you getting PCP...hang in there, you will be ok, as long as you take your meds as prescribed...hugs            ojo

Hi-
Thank you for the encouraging words. Yes my numbers are low last/ first viral load and cd4 count was 370 for vl and cd4 at 83 that from over 6.8 million and under 20 at diagnosis. Still in the early stages of acceptance so still very emotional and feels like a step back. Was on Fluconazole when I started my other hiv meds but dr took me off after the first month. So is this something I need to insist on to my Dr. As he called in a couple of prescriptions and wants to see me next week.

ojo     Hello cbdc..Your case is just like mine, I was dxed with PCP, therefor aids, only 20 cd4 in 1994, meds now are great so, you will not be having the same problems a had with toxics meds and their bad side effects, meds now are way better, so, try to relax, it's ok to dry, scream, just don't kill anybody, lol, but, when you get rid of your frustration, get up and keep looking forward, life is still to good even living with hiv/aids, you will soon be able to increase your "soldiers" (cd4), and reduce you Vl to an UD levels...I'm sure the doctor has given you some antibiotics to prevent OIs, please make your list, talk to your doctor about what to do with the trush...you have to feel comfortable with your ID doctor, ask all kind of questions...good luck, again, relax wait and see your numbers...I asked you, if your partner will go with you, if you don't mind me asking...hugs           ojo

ojo      hi again cbdc...I forgot to tell you that I started with a cd4=20, vl=millons, almost 21 years later, my cd4=578 and I'm UD, so, YOU ARE GOING TO BE FINE, trust me...no looking backwards, just forward...hugs                  ojo

Mycelex Troches
http://www.rxlist.com/mycelex-drug/indications-dosage.htm

I hate thrush so very f*ing much and I swear by the troches - these icky tasting little lozenges that you dissolve in your mouth every few hours. Your tastebuds will be screwed up for a couple of days; but the thrush will start disappearing within a day.

make sure you're taking Bactrim also. A bactrim a day (or every m-w-f on the alternative dosing) until your cd4 is >200 will keep the PCP away. ;)

I had a haunting alarm in my phone to go off every four hours, I had to take five a day and until gone, & there was 70 in my bottle. They were sort of a fat rolaid but only worse & the taste never got better. But they did work, thankfully.
