Title: MRI and fear UPDATE!!!!!
Post by: Lis on September 18, 2006, 05:56:29 pm
i went to the id doc today. and we decided, after he performed a neurological exam that i needed an MRI... I have marked weakness on my right side... i cant drive long distances, I'm dropping all that i touch unless i WILL myself to hold on .. it has been going on for months... i was pleases that my doc told me that we need to do a work up... i guess that i figured that all of these things were just the disease process (and they are by the way)   i check into hospital at 7:30 for a brain and cervical MRI... if that is inconclusive .. i go for a spinal tap... i have a living will... and plan to get it noterised in the next few days... life is weird.... but BRING IT ON!!!

so what am i dealing with here.... the end of the line... or one more TREATABLE OI?  im scared!!!!
love and respect...

Lis,
I wish I had an answer for you but I have no clue.  I did see you were going for a spinal tap, in which I have had done.  See if doctor can call at least one pill of a sedative like xanx or valium to keep you calm.  You need to stay very still when they do the spinal tap and not to scare you but it does hurt but not for long.  Good Luck with everything.  Big Hugs to you.   Rachel

Lis,

First off..BIG HUG, and know that you are in my prayers!

Hubby had 2 spinal taps in less than 12 hours...well the fools couldnt do it right the first time. They tried to do it in his hospital room. So the next morning they sent him downstairs where they should have done the first time. He said it wasnt that bad but did have headaches for a days after.

You hang in there hon.

Hugs

Lis honey,

You will be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow.   I hope that this gives you some answers as to why you've been having these problems.

This is for you sweetie:

Hey Liz

Good luck tomorrow.  The worst part of an MRI is that claustrophobic feeling one can get.  Drives me batty.

Let us know what you find out.

Hello Lis,

Just want you to know I am keeping you in my thoughts. I have had one MRI done. Most be over a year and a half now. My MRI lasted about 25 minutes. And it really was not that uncomfortable.Actually it seemed to go by very fast ! They piped in music during the procedure. The main thing is remaining still. I just closed my eyes and relaxed as best as possible. it wasn't that difficult since I was already tired. You will do ok Lis.

Just want to say also , they will take everything into consideration to make you as confortable as possible...

Lisbeth,

I had a spinal a few years back. The doctor knew exactly what he was doing and I had a nurse that held me like I was her  breast-feeding baby. It went very well. No pain and no headache afterwards. The trick is having a doctor that knows what he’s doing.

This must be the year for hospitals for me. I can’t believe the thousands of dollars my insurance company is paying for my skinny  little ass. And we're not finished yet.

Chin up you sexy thing. Just make sure they fix whatever is  broken.  >:(

Gosh Lis, I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this. I'm sending plenty of light and love and positive energy your way.

Has anyone raised the possibility that you're dealing with the aftermath of a mild stroke? That was the first thing that came to my mind when you said you have weakness predominately on one side. Whatever it is, I too hope it's something boring and easily treated. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Hugs,
Ann

Dear Lis,

whenever i think about you, it has been like somebody that i do care about is being tortured by some ugly persons and i wish i could tell them:
look how beautiful, how naive, how sincere, how warm she is. leave Lis to us.
Now, between all the things i have read today, all the negative and positive things, everything sounded a bit like a story to me. a story that i read and sympathise, but do not have really much to say.
Your case is different.
i do imagine you in the MRI tunnel, and it makes me as nervous as if i myself am going to go through it.
that's why i will pray not for you tonight but for both of us. for the good should arrive.

I got through the MRI... that little cage they put my head in was NO run.. but OK.. they gave me ear plugs, and JEEZ that thing was still so loud!!!

THE GOOD NEWS!!!!!  my brain appears NORMAL  (crap! LOL) i have several bulging discs, but not enough to explain the loss of hand function and such.. (according to the doctor)

NEXT STOP... i have and appt with a neurologist on the 28th of Sept.. my ID doc and he will get a sample of spinal fluid and check for OI's cancer, yanda yanda.....

i am so relieved!!! i just KNEW my brain was swiss cheese!! ITS NOT!!

thank you all!!

YAY !

I know that cage thing they put on your head is no fun, is it honey?  The spinal tap is no fun either, but not too painful; if I remember correctly it is about a 5 or 6 on my 1 thru 10 scale of 'scary medical procedures'.  It doesn't last long either, but you have to lie still for awhile afterwards.

Hope you get some answers on the 28th !

love you,

Alan   :-*

Hi Lis,

Thanks for the update. I am glad things went well today. Sorry to hear about the bulging discs. Incidentally, when I had my MRI done a while back, it was bulging discs they discovered. If I remember correctly, it was either c-5 and c-6,   or c-6 and c-7 (cervical vertebrae) Perhaps the neurologist can come with something.

Lis, after your spinal, go to the nearest coffee booth at the hospital or a place you can get the strongest coffee they have and drink a large one. That will prevent you from getting the nasty migraine headache a few hours later. I just wish a doctor would have told me that be before my 6 spinal tap. I at first thought he was just BSing me, but it works. You won't get the headache.

((((((Lis))))))

Have they ruled out the possibility of a mild stroke? If they haven't looked at that possibility yet, it might be worth you bringing it up. My partner's mum was having problems and they poo-poo'd the idea of stroke, but that was eventually found to be the cause. Sometimes stroke can present symptoms that are a bit atypical and the docs don't think to (or in some cases, don't want to) investigate that possibility.

I sure hope they get to the bottom of this problem soon - you sure don't need the stress!

Hugs,
Ann
