Hello everyone,
A few months ago we proposed a side trip to Quebec City during the Montreal AMG 06 Gathering. Back then there was no firm date concerning this trip. For giving the chance to everyone to attend since several persons are leaving on the 21st, we thought it would be best to make this trip on Sunday, August 20th.
We are aware the scheduled will be pretty busy on the previous days so you have the possibility to do the side trip to Quebec City or simply take the day off. This is really up to you.
Proposed scheduled for that day would be :
depart from Montreal at 10:30 am - arrival in Quebec City at 1:00 pm
depart from Quebec City at 7:00 pm - arrival in Montreal at 9:30 pm
Now we have a firm date, it would very helpful for us to know approximatively the number of persons who wants to make the side trip to Quebec City. You are invited to use this space for letting us know.
Regards,
The Canuck
(Your tour guide )
P.S. We are open for changing the hours of departures and/or arrival. Let us know what you would like.

I hope you have room for two more???? Stephen and Joe.

Hi Joe,
We'll make room for you too. Concerning this by the way, Tuesday I'll call in Montreal and see how it cost for three vans ( 7 persons capacity ), we'll possibly need three on top of those who have cars. I'll put a message in the near future as we'll need three persons ( if only 3 vans are required ) for reserving them and basically be responsible for these, and drive them too. Of course the cost ( renting + gasoline + parking in Quebec City ) will have to be split by the users..and we'll see to that too. It shouldn't be too expensive I suppose.
Regards,
The Canuck
P.S. We are already 28 making this side-trip to Quebec City...three cars...three vans...well it'll be like a caravan on our way to Quebec City. :o

I'd be happy to rent a van, just like in Toronto and pilot a bunch of crazy pozzies to Quebec City. Just let me know how I can help. BTW, there is a rental car, Budget I think, on the main floor, facing Catherine (but you have to go out of the hotel and enter from the street side).
-
Joe,
I really appreciate you offered to help us here. Later this week I'll post a thread on this subject and will consider I already found one person for renting / driving a van. Many thanks Joe !
All the best,

I have been doing some reconsidering over the past couple of days. The cinch was when I finally received my maps, and tour book from AAA. I had no idea that the drive to Quebec City was as lengthy as it is.
To be honest, I'm not sure I want to be couped up in a van for a long drive each way to participate in this trip.
While I was at my AAA office today, the woman helping me was very informative, and gave me some materials about tours around Montreal, that are fun, equally priced, and you get to see the highlights. I have especially been intrigued by the double decker bus tour. I've always wanted to ride one of those. It covers Mt. Royal, Notre Dame, Chinatown, the old Port etc.
In short, I think I am electing out of the Quebec City tour. I hope everyone has a great time, but I am interested in maybe doing one of these Montreal tours. There are several to choose from, but I have the whole double decker thing stuck in my head.
I hope this doesn't pose any inconvenience to the group.

I'm with Lisa on this one. I will only be there in Montreal till Monday morning and will be leaving the hotel at 5am. So you guys have the best time ever in Quebec City. Sorry if this causes any confussion.
-
It doesn't cause any confusion but would had been awfully nice to now before we reserved the vans, especially if cancellation becomes the new trend.

Dear Claude,
I am so terribly sorry. It was only today that I got the map of the coast line, and realized what a long trip this would be each way. I had it in my head that this would be a short jaunt of maybe a half hour. I didn't realise the distances involved.
I'm not well versed in the topography of Canada. Although, another time I would love to explore your coastline, now that I have all the maps of the area.
I am willing to toss my share of the rental money into the kitty for the vans so that there won't be a shortage.

just so everyone knows...it is about a 3 hour trip (beautiful highway drive by the way) to Quebec City and of course a 3 hour trip to return. Well worth it though....Quebec City is very distinctive, different from Montreal. I am still going and I hope others will still plan on attending.
By the way, if we need to reduce the number of rentals...that is easily done with no financial penalty.

Hello Everyone: ;D
Gary is correct, if we don't need all the vans we can simply unreserve them. There is no financial loss.
Now that we know what the approximate cost would be, other activities on the schedule have been, well scheduled, and the event is moving closer, it isn't unexpected that some attendees may opt to change their mind. (Either by deciding to not go or if you aren't on the list by adding your name to it.)
If you are reconsidering that is not a problem. We can make this work for everyone without any difficulty. (But please don't wait till the last minute to make up your mind! :P)

I would love to go but I don't think I could go three hours without a cigarette. Marc saw this thread and mentioned he wanted to go to Quebec City. (No he doesn't smoke) I know ....don't bitch at me, please but
I'm a smoker....what can I say. ::)

Gary...it will probably done in 2 1/2 hours with someone who knows the road. Normally it takes me 2:00 hrs from my home to the tunnel...considering it'll take about 15 minutes or less to get to the highway ( where is the aforementioned tunnel ), and from where I live it's roughly 15 minutes..then could be done in 2 1/2 hours. However since we don't want to loose any vehicles...we have to be a bit more careful but we shall be able to do it anyway close to that time.

Rab...Great to hear this as I thought we were screwed.
I would love to go but I don't think I could go three hours without a cigarette.
David...I don't know how many persons on that trip are smoking but perhaps is it possible to have a '' smoking van '' for those who smokes. However I don't know if it's possible to smoke in a car/ van you rent. Several years ago it was possible..but now I really don't know.
Add me on. I wouldn't miss it FOR THE WORLD!!!!
Rich...I'll add you on the list.

A smoking van sounds sort of like a smoking gun. The lawyer in me (my trade) wants to say a van where smoking is permitted. Maybe thats why they don't let lawyers coordinate written projects...we are always redrafting!
