Title: cut on my finger
Post by: cadet on January 03, 2014, 09:53:27 pm
Hi,

Today, I went to the store to buy something, I went to the cashier and then I noticed that his thumb had a big gash and it was bright red, and his other finger had another gash. I wasn't sure if it was still bleeding but it looked raw and fresh.

At the same time I had a fresh cut on my finger.

I handed over my credit card and he gave it back to me, and he gave me the receipt, etc.

If blood was transferred in any way, does that mean there was a risk for HIV infection?

This has been bothering me all day.

You did not have a risk for HIV and no one has ever been infected in that manner . HIV is fragile and cant live outside of its host body . There is also the obstacle of the cells in your fingers not being the type HIV can readily latch onto .

Use condoms correctly and consistently for vaginal and anal sex and do not share drug injection equipment and you will avoid HIV . Its really that simple .

So even if actual blood was exchanged between our cuts, then there still wouldn't be a risk?

If you had a massive open wound and someone drizzled fresh pouring blood there could be a risk but you were not infected from a credit card transaction, it simply was not a risk and NO ONE has ever been infected that way so you can relax .
