Receptive Fellatio and HIV risk
« on: February 12, 2018, 03:54:08 am »
Hi,

My concern started when I had unprotected sex with another man on 20th of January 2018, and he was bi-curious and it was his first time with another guy. Now! He told me repeatedly that he only has sex with his girl-friend and sometimes does it with or without condom. I know I suffer anxiety and OCD, my question to you is :

How safe is unprotected fellatio?
I had a burn on my inner lip;however when I saw it in the mirror I could not see any burn but only felt it when I placed my tongue over it.

I have excellent oral hygiene with no bleeding gums, though on the night of Fellatio I was down 5 pegs of whisky and had a dry mouth. I had *PROTECTED* anal sex through out, and on and off I used dental dam (most of the time I did not) for a fellatio, I did not take any cum in my mouth.

I took a HIV Rapid/POC 3rd generation test at 21 days(3 weeks) post exposure and I tested negative. How certain I should be this is a good indication of my status.

Thanks and love from India.

You had protected anal sex and therefore do not have a risk of HIV transmission.

The risk related to giving oral is theoretical and negligible. The mouth is a hostile environment for HIV, and so unless you have gaping open wounds in your mouth we would not suggest testing. If unprotected oral sex was a significant risk of transmission, we would see millions more people with HIV, so relax on this front.

We would however always encourage anyone who is sexually active to get tested for all STI's periodically, as whilst HIV is hard to transmit, other (treatable) infections are far easier to acquire.

One last question to you!

Is Testing at 3 weeks post exposure on POC/Rapid (Finger Prick) 3rd Generation test a good indication of someones status? I read multiple time on CDC/BCMJ/i-Base that a 3 weeks test should pick 95% of infections. I am not counter questioning, I am only curious to know and educate myself.

Thank you once again.

3 months is conculsive post exposure however any negative result behind 6 weeks is unlikely to change.

Move on with your life, just test as normal and at least yearly for STI'S and HIV

Brief encounter and hiv risk
« Reply #4 on: February 18, 2018, 08:58:24 am »
Hi again,

I slept with a man of known status who is HIV negative, he assured me he is negative because he is married, and always used a condom for sex with a man, he tested himself on HIV before his marriage took place in 2014, ever since then he has practiced safe sex! I had a brief encounter with him for 4-5 seconds when he went inside me and I pushed him out! This so happened because of intense gravity between us, what are my chances of contracting the Virus? Will a test at 4 weeks an HIV test do justice to all this? Or shall I start with PEP, ill complete 24hrs tonight at 0100hrs.

We used cindoms through our sex journey, except that one moment!! Should I be worried? What should be my next step.

PS; I have trust issues and I know he isnt lying because he is married and its a taboo in small towns  to get such infections, so one all the more plays safe!!

Please try to answer all my queries and also about the test!!

I really don't know what you expect to be the answer to your question (or want to be the answer to your question), other than an assurance that you were not infected by the HIV as a result of the activity you describe in your post.

I can't give you that assurance, nor can anyone or anything other than a test for HIV antibodies.

Here's the deal:  for risk assessment purposes, moderators of this forum presume that any partner of unknown HIV status is HIV positive, no matter what he or she may say.  Therefore, since you engaged in unprotected, risky sex (receptive anal), no matter how brief, you are at potential risk for HIV infection.

Obviously, if, in fact, he is HIV negative, you are not at risk.

If he is HIV positive, the odds are in your favor that you were not infected (in terms of statistics), but people have become infected because of a single act of unprotected sex.

So, the only way to be certain is to test for HIV antibodies six weeks past the activity, then at 13 weeks past the activity for confirmation of the six week results.

Whether you should seek PEP is your decision in consultation with your healthcare provider (from who you would need a prescription), but, if you do decide to seek PEP, you need to do it (and be on a PEP regimen) within 72 hours of the activity.

Your post was removed as it was outside of your own thread. Please only post in your own thread going forward no exception.

Given a BJ we would not even recommend specific testing let alone PEP and if you read back your thread you already have had an answer to this type of activity.

Move on with your life, continue to use condoms for any intercourse and test at least yearly for STIs and HIV out of routine

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim
