Clean your own yard before...
« on: May 07, 2011, 01:12:27 am »
you put your nose in others yards...

Mom noted that Springer Ave deed was 2 lots....all these years I've been cussing out the neighbors for not taking care of their property...and it turns out to have been ours....so...I got busy....I really should have been a gardener...

We are Lot 61A & Lot 62A1....Behind us is the two story yellow house  Lot 71, who also own the vacant lot 62B which is next to the MsE..

I enter the Lost Land where the MsE's chain link fence ends, which is the end of their property. It took me 7 days to clear my way to the where they have a back gate which is chained shut.

The first thing you come to is a very old oak tree that is dead from the trumpeter vines, which I spent three days pulling off it to see if I could be it's saviour....I wasn't...it appears to be quite dead...and will probably eventually fall at some point...I think I will let the trumpeter vines grow back for the hummingbirds.....who were not pleased with me... at all....

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4276/194057131651003130.jpg

Here I am at Dead Oak looking to the back....I think I have a lot of cardio mapped out for the future here...

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/839/1940571333184503.jpg

This is where I now leave the hill at Dead Oak and the property starts to drop down...

http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/7608/194057133943334886.jpg

The two story yellow house...they have made a circular drive in the back and use a driveway on both sides of the house...

looking back to our back yard...

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3820/194057135145242166.jpg

Taking a break...I cut the curtain of dead vines in another spot and ..there are the neighbors...

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/2738/194057135274863789.jpg

See the bicycle? He's always working on bicycles..in that spot...

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/1439/194057136091826376.jpg

After a LOT of hacking, pulling and cutting...I finally break through to the end of neighbors property...

http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/4834/194057136447067738.jpg

As you come to the end, and go to the right, is the vacant lot. To scale..I am over 6' tall, and I can barely reach the top of the fence...the cut up brush is hiding a 'boardwalk' made of railroad timbers...

http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/3780/194057136979431176.jpg

look..looklooklook...I uncovered some cute little steps that go up to a space that used to have a gate, but I couldn't find one...

http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/5329/194057137466080018.jpg

and, you go up those steps and there is the vacant lot and the new house...that was rebuilt to look just like the old house...

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/3324/19405713779189681.jpg

Turning around at the top of those steps, there is a path that goes down and runs beside the garage shed...this tells me that if we follow  MsE's corner at those steps as the boundary and go done, then the garage shed is not on our property....

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/5430/19405713859450876.jpg

however, we don't know just how far Lot 62A1 goes as this is the back corner by the light post looking straight out to their property and if the map is correct, then we have a chunk of some of this...somewhere...

http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/1372/194057139085867644.jpg

I am exhausted. I have been diligently clearing the Lost Lot ...I cannot believe that I never realized that when Mom had been saying that we had two lots on the deed...that that jungle was ours.

I had to take the day off yesterday as... I fell. It was the weirdest thing... I was using my gardening chair as I sat and cut weeds/vines/grass from the fence.

I would have used the weed eater...but when I filled it with gas/oil I SMELLED gas too late to realize it was running out and making a puddle on the patio. Checking the fuel  line, It was disconnected...and it was brittle...It would not go back on, just crumble.

So I filled the DL Trimmer only to not be able to find the thingies that you weave in and out to cut....nowhere to be found... and I know I bought a pack of them last summer...

My electric clippers wont work as a piece of wood got caught in the blades and I bent something getting it out....it won't work anymore...

..and because when it rains ..it pours..my Murray Mower w/ Briggs-Stratton engine gave up the ghost after 15 years of abuse use ...

So there I was, using the hedge clippers in place of everything else and getting a real good upper body  work out...it had just rained for two days so the ground was soft and the legs sunk right in the ground...the back went in deep and kept getting deeper...

I was waiting for them to hit bottom...instead I realized that I was going to be dumped out going backwards and I didn't want to be on the ground...

*It is pure drama just to get off the carpeted floor..

*stickers....

So I tried to roll out to the side and catch myself with my gloved hands. I had too much momentum as I was on a small hill...going down...and I don't know what happened...but I remember seeing the clippers in my hand and not wanting to impale myself (there are too many vampire movies on lately) and..

so instead I threw m my arms to the side and I landed...face first in the dirt....and stickers....

I don't think I passed out, but I remember thinking that it was a good thing the ground was soft as I felt my nose being squashed and then my body hit the ground.....

..and then the rolling around process began of trying to get up...I was covered front and back with stickers....my face was stinging...and my knees...

I went inside and couldn't see my face in the mirror...I had been sweating and the dirt was black....all I could see was my eyes and my teeth...

Daniel thought I had stuck my head up a chimney....I had him pull the stickers off my back...and I went outside to wash off with the hose...

I was kind of dizzy, but I put my gloves back on and finished trimming the fence....later...after my shower...my right side of my forehead looked like it had been clawed down to the eyebrow, which had a bruised area running across my forehead.

So.. I can't recommend a dirt and sticker facial for that 'fresh look'.... ::)

I bought a new mower today.

Wow Ron, that sounds like quite a tumble. Glad you didn't impale yourself and came away with only scrapes and bruises.

I think if I had a vacant lot like that, I'd only tidy it up minimally with maybe a couple meandering paths through it. Kinda like a miniature wildlife refuge. Please don't over-do it and end up really hurting yourself!

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

If I have any traces of vampirism in me.. I have beaten the impaler.. :D

The scratches have already scabbed and started peeling, like a sunburn...and looking in the mirror...there's the same old face.

A nature trail sounds very exotic....only.....I..I..oh, I can't help myself... I just HAVE to create order out of chaos...it's a part of me...I live with it.. :D

I am putting a walking path in the front woods on our property because that area was fairly clear and cleaned up since I recently cut down 10 trees and picked up the years worth of debris. However I could only do the nature trail thing in the back part of our 2 acre lot that goes down to the gully (which is a rushing stream in the rainy season); because, like you, even though I perfer order, Nature in her woody areas believes in chaos.

After a tree I was cutting down nearly hit the house, but smashed the fence, and in the repair of that fence, I ripped out a nipple ring  :o I've been a little hesitant of any more "yard work" for a while and have stuck to the garden and flower beds. I have all Summer to tackle the ever growing honeysuckle and kudzu.

That looks like quite a project (thanks for all the pictures!!) so do be careful! Watch out for snakes, bees, and rusty things!
