Job Interviews Ad Naseum...

For those of you following my career...   LOL 

I have been on 8 job interviews within the last week and a half...  Almost an average of one per day.  And, with each day, I find myself more and more despondent to my current job.  I don't know if that's how it's supposed to work or not, but my disinterest in continuing the charade of working in my current position, when all I really do is surf the internet all day and send off more resumes and cover letters is really starting to grate at me.

Today I went on a second interview for a hotel which is hiring in the local area.  Truth be told, I only went to the first interview for this hotel because I figured it would be worth the effort for practice, AND, would allow me to feel like I'm working towards an end.  I went to the first interview for this hotel and I totally was brazen, sassy, and brutally honest in my answers to the interviewer - to the detriment of my appeal as an employee.  One of the statements I made, during the course of the interview was, "Tell me, is this one of those corporations that takes advantage of its employees under the guise of exempt status and the false promise of comp days, is it???"

In fact, after telling my interviewer the type of employer I would like to have, under no sugar-coated terms, I was surprised when she said that she'd call me because she'd like to give me an interview with the manager who would be my supervisor.  I was even more surprised when she did call.

The second interview was today.  Brazen again, was I.  Strangely, I think that they're impressed.  I don't think I want the job though.  I'm not truly interested in an assistant manager position, and the responsibilities involved.  One of the reasons I want a new job is because I want to drop the stress, and work well within the comfort zones of what I already know I can do -- no new challenges.  Although this job would not present me with new challenges, it would present me with stress - more than I think I'm willing to attempt.  But, the benefits would be good.  Anyway, I will continue to plug away, with the interview process - and hope that a satisfying ending is down the pipe somewhere.

All in all, I'm learning a lot through this round of job interviews.  I just hope it ends soon.

You need to ask yourself if you'd be happy in that type of environment.  Take a hard look at your past and decide if you're one of those guys always working towards something bigger or just naturally competitive. 

Honesty in an interview is the best policy.  It shows you know what you want and what the prospective employer wants from you.  You being direct may be the type of qualities they desire for their company.  Many company create stress because the higher-ups don't want to hear the truth but apparently this manager feels otherwise.

I anticipate that I will be bored... I just want something low maintenance and low key that I can't fuck up.  Meanwhile, I want to be taking classes.

Be careful taking a job that will be too easy.   Thats what I did,  they promoted me about 4 times in a year and a half.  They didn't ask me they just said. we'd like you to move into this new role.  I went from a no brainer to higher up the food chain than I ever hoped to be.
  Surprisingly I find it rewarding. There is stress, but it's a new kind of stress.  Everyone tells us to eliminate stress, but shouldn't we challenge our selves? My wife asks me to take better care of my self, but hell, where do we draw th line? Do we just accept the 100% disability and spend our days dwelling on our illness?
  Some times I really need some time to rest, but again, where do we draw the line?

The brazen interview technique...  I think it's a good thing.  I'd rather know up front what I was getting when I hired someone.

  thanks.  I'm surprised at how far it's gotten me.  We'll see where the joyride ends, though.

I kinda agree about the stress thing...i'm looking for something with a bit less stress also.  Or at least stress on my terms.

I took a less stressful job while working on my MBA.  Trust me, classes bring a whole other type of stress so be careful especially if you haven't been in "school mode" for a while.  It takes time to relearn those habits.
