These two "Older farts"....
« on: August 02, 2012, 10:01:07 am »

...Are leaving for the beach in a few minutes.  This will be the first swim in the Gulf of Mexico this year, for both of us.  I think the water temp is about 90 degrees.

We are heading to "Sand Key County beach" which is about 10 miles from where we live.

Instead of going to Sand Key Park, we decided to go to Honeymoon Island, which is about 7 miles away.  The weather didn't look too good, heading south, so we decided to stay up in Dunedin area.

Here's some pics.  We had a great, enjoyable and relaxing morning. There was quite a breeze blowing off the Gulf, so it kept things quite comfortable. And the water was very warm !

This is us as we were leaving this morning:

Wonderful pictures! You two look like you had a great time.

I couldn't help noticing the brown-with-white-text signs in the park. There are similar signs in our infamous Hippie Hollow in Austin. Some say "WARNING--Nudity may be occuring past this point," while others say "Endangered Species Habitat--Please stay on main trail." We like to tell visitors that the endangered species is in fact the Lake Travis Peter Swallow.

I am not sure whether these are the designated colors for State Parks,  But I think County parks have different colored signs.

In the late 70's and throughout the 80's,  This Island was the "Hot Spot", for gay activity, on the north end. There was no charge to enter. We all usually migrated to the northern end of the island, where nude sunbathing, and other "activities"  ::)  took place. Sometimes the cops would make busts up there.

Eventually, the state bought the land, Charged a fee,   and nude sunbathing became a thing of the past.

Looks absolutely delightful....so does the scenic views. ;D  Glad you enjoyed it.  Surprised you're already out and about.  I've still not recovered from Saturday night.

Modified to add a memory;  As I had never seen a picture of Ray or Ed, I first noticed someone carrying an entire duffle bag of shoes and knew he had to be one of us.  It was so full, he couldn't even zip it. ;D  I instantly bonded.

We've been there.  Very nice place.  We're missing Florida.  We went down in February.  We're planning to return either around Christmas, or again in February.  Our first trip there, we went to Treasure Island--right there near St. Pete.  We were told the south end of the beach was the gay beach.  All we could find were straight couples.

Thanks for sharing your pix.  Looks like you guys had a great time.  You both look very good, so no more Shamu talk.

Ted,

If you guys decide to come down, private message me and let me know when.  Maybe I can swing a few days off from work. ( if I have enough advanced notice)  If not, Ed will be happy to show you guys around. He's particularly familiar with downtown St. Peterburg.
