Still alive--just checking in
« on: November 14, 2013, 09:44:05 am »
Believe it or not, I'm still alive and kicking ;-)  Last labs were 3 months ago: cd4s--1150, vl: still undectectable (since 1996).

Last winter I was fired from my job at the state health department because of my involvement in efforts to de-criminalize our HIV disclosure law.  I also had the audacity to remind the state director, publically, that our local epidemic was extremely impacting men who have male sex partners, especially African American men who have male sex partners.  Seems HIV is 'ok' if we're talking about 'innocent victims' like children and women, but not us lying, disgusting men-whores. ;-)

I also challenged their efforts to violate our open-meetings act by making our HIV prevention and care community planning body, 'closed meetings'.

Anyway...took the firing as a relief and chance to re-evaluate.  I was out of work for 9 days.  I was hired to run a program that I actually helped write.  I now work exclusively with HIV positive people and provide any assistance I can in HIV disclosure issues, safer sex concerns, medication adherence etc., plus helping to keep them linked to medical, mental health, substance us care and any other services they might need--and we can get paid for.

I'm re-engaged, try to be useful, try to practice what I teach--try to listen above all things, and will shortly jump headlong back into HIV/AIDS activism.

Still dealing with several issues--none of them debilitating yet.

Jst wanted to poke my head in, let you know that I'm still around, and thank you for all the support you give.
