Stars Upon Thar's
« on: December 15, 2006, 08:20:58 pm »
I've asked this a time or two around here, but haven't gotten a solid answer yet.  So here goes...

Some of the folks here have one, two, three or more stars listed on their profiles...others do not.  What do the stars represent?  How are they gotten, etc?

Hmpfh!  Why should I bother with you?  I see no stars upon thar's!  LOL.

Seriously.  Although I would also just love to know what is behind the mysterious, "nothing, or nothing you can see..."

But I will settle for an explanation of the stars!

only have to ask the inevitable:

Phil or Bobby?

(always a raging concern on another forum I freakquent)

I'm a Phil man myself but Bobby did sound very good recently at the Tabernacle!

did you go?

I have not been to any shows like that in just ages and ages and ages.  The last I saw of anything pure in that vein was at the Midtown Music Festival 2000.  Bob & company were there, billed as 'The Other Ones'...I think that is right.

I have a place for both, but if I had to go one or the other....

Yes, I am a Phil man myself.  Truly tend to think of it all as part of the same, for the most part.

(Lordy, that one ranks up there with the Floydian 'Gilmour or Waters?' debate!)

That was also the 'right' answer!  LOL.  Actually, Gilmour is one of my favorite guitar stars, but I appreciate the whole Waters approach.  Sent you a PM, btw.

For all those reading this....I still want an answer about the dang 'Stars'  !!

Back in another life I used to work for Not Fade Away Tie-Dye company - we used to do some of the official shirts for the Dead. Last show I went to would have been in 1990. I can't believe it's such a long time ago now!

And... um... Bobby! ;D

Ha!  I knew Ann would pop on this thread before long!  Just a hunch!  LOL

My last show was in Charlotte, I think...for the 'Jerry Garcia Band' at Charlotte Coliseum.  Might have seen the whole GD in Atlanta again after that, but I can't remember.  (Imagine that...)

Now that we have your attention....will you explain the 'Stars' question to me really fast?

Hi Twofires, welcome to the forum btw.

No, even when I was I didn't have much to do with the silkscreen side of things. I just tied and dyed - ran the dye room for a few years before I moved to the Rock.

Even if I was still in the biz, shipping costs would probably be prohibited.

However.... I think I have the address of the outfit that printed the AMG tee-shirts - they're a poz company. If I can find the address, I'll PM it to you.

I know the print you mean! I used to have one, but don't know where it ended up. Mikio worked around the the corner from our shop in New Paltz, before we moved the main operation to Kingston. (NY) He's a really sweet guy.

I just found the label - it has a phone number on it which I'll PM to you. I love the name of the company - "Nightsweats and T-cells Co." the label goes on to say... Printed by PWAs Custom Screen Printing.

Yes, that's just something I've seen lately when I have tapped the 'Who's Online' page.  Usually, it's next to you!  I was fine with "unknown action"...but that "or nothing you can see" part sent me into 'had to know' mode!  LOL  Just too, too tantalizing!

LOL-  Love that name...'Nightsweats and T-cells Co".  Hilarious!

I just found them on the internet too. Turns out they're in Kent, Ohio, where I lived before I moved to NYC. Now I've got to go have a closer look to see if I know any of them ... it will be 26 years ago though... so I don't know.

http://www.nightsweats.com/information.html

At least my pack-rat tendencies came in handy for something for a change... when I peeled the label off the tee shirt, instead of binning it like a normal person, I stuck in into one of my notebooks. ;D

I did a search on the site for profile stars and found this thread -  "Should We Keep Member Ratings?"  This was in June

http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=627.msg8071#msg8071

One of the last posts (Reply 37) from "Daddy" Staley says:

Okay, the votes are in, and the polling booths have closed.  I've deleted the coding that showed Member Rankings/Stars.

As for other suggestions, like showing when you joined, or showing when you were diagnosed, there are TWO ways to post these yourselves.  You can use the "Signature" field (maximum of 500 characters allowed) in your Profile settings, which will appear at the bottom of all your posts, and/or you can use the "Personal Text" field (maximum of 50 characters allowed), which will appear directly below your avatar.

Thanks for taking part in this feature poll!

So I guess thats the explanation for now thunter -

Thank You!

This thread did meander a bit...we went from the 'Stars' to the Grateful Dead & Pink Floyd, to pottery, to slings, and cats.

Can it all be tied together?  Perhaps...

Stars- AM and Sneeches, to
Grateful Dead & Floyd-  Dark Star & Dark Side, to
Pottery-  Where our own 'twofires' is a star, to
Slings-  where our own 'pozguy75' is a star, to
Cats- Down Under the Stars (and we're back to the Dead again...)

Whew!  Thanks again for looking that up for me.

i also have been known to mine quartz crystla between Dead Shows, as well as paint Grateful Dead album cover reproductions (always wanted a Blues for Allah on a garage door!)

I'll do almost anything, as long as it doesn't involve trying to hold down a day job!

I just found out where the pottery reference came in - it's from your intro thread. Nice drums! I always wanted one of those. Seeing you in your tie-dyes makes me think I should dig mine out and start wearing them again. LOL I'm getting all nostalgic for my twenties!

And I think Blues for Allah would make an excellent garage door, or bedroom wall. Copacetic!

funny thing about the painting and pottery; I started doing both of those while sitting in prison for 5 years, cuz of some LSD...

my case was heard by the supreme court! its all about the carrier medium, whether to weigh it or not.

we lost, of course..rehnquist wrote the majoirty. If you like twisted logic as light bedtime reading, try this:

 http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/legal/l1990/chapman_v_us_us_supreme_court.htm

happily that issue is now resolved, on the federal level anyway, but too late to help me out. But the camp i was at had a 6 lane bowling alley as well as a kick ass pottery studio, and all the canvas, oils amd acrylics you could ever want, all for free!

those were the days...

And it looks like the original 'Stars' in question aren't around post-upgrade anyway!  Oh, well....led to a cool little cyber-drum circle for us, eh?
