question about hollow needle
« on: September 23, 2009, 09:30:21 am »
hi every expert,I am a new here.sorry for my poor English.I had read many posts here.and i know that hiv Transmission must be occurd inside the body.If hiv Transmission occur outside the host(I just say if),first it must established a bloody or infectious body fluids  environment. So to establish such environment, there must be a huge amount of bloody or infectious body fluids present to be a theoretical risk.for example insert penis into a container which is full of fresh blood to ba a theoretical risk.Am I right? ;D

Ray,

We deal in real-life scenarios here, not weird fantasies of putting a penis into a container of blood. In other words, get real.

Sexually speaking, the only true risks are unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. Use condoms for either act, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Sorry ann, thank you for your reply.I know it is a real world.you are the great people.and you said hiv must infect some special and very few cells present in anus and vagina.and maybe other mucous membrane(THIS IS MY GUESS). I wonder if these cells are present in the nipple and the skins around nipple(male and female).Someone like a doctor say the  nipple and the skin around nipples are mucous membrane.Althogh I was very doubtful of what he said.Would you please give me the right answer.thanks

Ray,

You cannot be infected through your nipples. Is there a specific incident you're worried about? Get to the point, please.

It's true that hiv can only infect a few types of cells. These cells are not found in your nipples nor are they found elsewhere on the skin.

They ARE found in the lining of your urethra (where you pee from), the inner side of your foreskin (if you have one, it's the bit of the foreskin which is hidden when you do not have a hard on) and in your anus. For women, it's the anus and vagina.

All you need to do to protect yourself from hiv infection is to use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse. Make sure you read through the condom and lube links in my signature line.

thanks ann.Yes,I had some incident.not special, just nipple and ears sucked with dry lip, which I guess may have cracks and blood.for lip tight nipples, there may not exposure to the air and no saliva. So it worried me somehow. Now I know it is not the concern about HIV.thank you very much

« Reply #5 on: September 25, 2009, 11:41:23 am »
hi ann and other experts,I have seen some people ask questions about hiv risk  for needle stick and blood draw. And many people in my country have some fears after they had blood drawn. But I consider it that draw blood could not be a risk, even if the hollow needle was filled with infectious blood and immediately reused to another person even insert into the vein.Because the blood outside the needle are exposed to the air and the blood inside the hollow needle will be pushed by the blood pressure of the person. And they wouldn't inject and just pull out.So it could not have a way to access the bloodstream.I think I may right, but not very sure.

Is there some specific reason you are raising this issue? We prefer to focus on specific situations here rather than just something abstract.

I don't know where you are writing from but certain universal standards are followed with regard to drawing blood and the use of "a needle full of infected blood" just doesn't make any sense unless you are talking about IV drug users sharing needles in a private setting.

In my experience needles don't get re-used. Usually they are sealed before being opened for use. If you are going to have a bloodtest done just make sure you are going to a reputable medical facility. And don't hesitate to ask if the needle being used is unused and/or has been sterilized.

You're essentially talking about a "what if" situation.

ann and andy, sorry to trouble you so much.I am new here and not very skillful on the forum.I am a chinese  and my first language isn't english. I'll read the Posting Guide carefully and make sure to understand it.
Ann and andy, you said a cut might be a remote risk, just when it is a fresh large deep cut and lots of fresh blood poor into the cut,not just a drop of blood, and even then that is a remote risk, isn't it?

That's right only I wouldn't use the term "remote risk." I would say "theoretical," which means it could happen but in the real world of HIV transmission doesn't happen that way.

You are for whatever personal reasons bothering yourself and worrying unnecessarily.

hi,andy and ann,I am sorry to trouble you again.I have another question.if two person share needles for drug.they should immediately reuse the needle then could be a risk,if the needle is droped and pick it up 30 seconds later then reused it would not be a risk.isn't it?you said the  cells that hiv can  infect are found in anus,is it deep inside the anus or the surface of the anus.waiting for your answer.Thank you

Sharing needles is NEVER a good idea. Unprotected anal penetration is a risk for HIV transmission. Rubbing against the outside of the anus is not a risk.

Ray, we aren't here to answer WHAT IF questions you come up with. We've responded quite clearly about the situation you presented.

You are going to get yourself a 28 day time out if you keep coming back here about anything that just pops into your mind as another "what if."

sorry andy I present my specific story.several days ago I went to a massage parlor.I was naked layed with my face down, the female massagist sit on my buttocks.suddenly I felt something wet on my anus.and she got her menstruation. It seems she just began her period at that moment.her knickers was real thin which is like a net.some blood might touch my anus directly,I feel it.so I have the question last night"you said the  cells that hiv can  infect are found in anus,is it deep inside the anus or the surface of the anus?"is it at risk?I searched a while and didn't find any similar answer.

No risk for having possibly had any of her menstrual blood on your buttocks, outside your anus or elsewhere on your body.

Get it? No risk? And please don't come back with a what if about whether any of her blood could have somehow gotten beyond the outside of your anus. That didn't happen and you are just at the edge of getting yourself a 28 day Time Out on this one.

Hi ann andy, I had read many posts here and known a cut that should be stitch with a lot of blood poor into the cut could be a risk.Do you mean the cut should be large and deep?
what about a cut that just deep but not large?

OK. I'm going to give you that Time Out you have been warned about. It's for 28 days. And don't make the mistake of trying to get around it by creating a new identity here because that will be quite apparent and it would get you banned from the site.

You've been given the basics repeatedly about your concerns and all you do is continue to come back with more what ifs. Give it up and get on with your life.
