hello to everyone, i have a question about an incident i had around the 12 or 13th of december 07. i ate at burger king that morning a bacon egg and cheese sandwich from the drive thru. after i finished around 20 mins later i noticed a little blood on both thumb tips, just a little dried blood around the size of a pencil eraser. i looked in the wrapper but didnt see any blood. anyways i had an hiv test done by advancedtestingcenter.com thru labcorp on the 8th of feb and got a negative test result. now was this even a risk and do i need to retest at 3 months? i dont want to pass anything to my wife. thanks again

No, this wasn't a risk and you do not need further testing. You ARE hiv negative. Hiv is not transmitted from items in the environment, including food and food wrappers. Please read through the Transmission Lesson so you can understand how hiv is and is not transmitted. You'll find a link to the lesson in the Welcome Thread.

ok ive been pretty nervous lately, i dont remember tasting blood or actually seein any except later on my fingers but who knows if that came from the food. hopefully i can put this to rest its all i think about lately. thank you ann for ur response.

It doesn't matter whether or not is was blood, or whether or not you accidentally ate any. It wasn't a risk, no matter how you slice it.

i dont know why i cant let this go, i keep trying to replay that morning over and over again to make myself feel better but its not working. what if the worker had just cut himself and purposely put blood on my sandwich and he had hiv. when you guys feel anxious how do you make yourself stop worrying. why do i feel this need to retest at 13 weeks? be easy on me i know i sound like a big baby.

This is all about feelings and not facts based in HIV science. Even if any of the IFs your mind is coming up with had occured, they still would not have been a means of transmissting HIV. Absolutely no risk whatsoever.

We've given you a responsible and well grounded answer. Beyond answering a concern in the manner we have there is nothing else we can do regarding your problem. If you can't let go of this concern then see a counselor or other professional to discuss the situation.

This is not an HIV situation no matter what your feelings and mind are saying to the contrary.

ok so i went to eat the other day with my wife and daughter at some mexican place that makes your food as you stand in line and order it. i order my meal and pay and my wife says was that blood on his finger. i think no way its prolly just salsa. ok so now of course im trying to see his hand which does have a glove on of some sort which prolly they are required to wear when serving food. i keep watching him and sure enuff he checks out his finger and it is bleeding. he takes his glove off and goes and runs it under some water. so i feel like a complete arse because i let my family eat the food after i thought my wife was just being a worry wart. what are our risk of hiv? i never saw blood on our food but thats not saying much it was a burrito and hard to see whats inside. could blood penetrade his glove? what if he cut his glove and his finger at the same time. thanks

As has been explained to you previously, this is not a risk. Even if it was blood and even if you consumed some with your meal, you would not have been at risk of HIV infection.

We've already been through the blood on food concern with you in the past. You were told and it still remains valid that HIV is not passed through blood on food or through blood on any environmental surfaces such as doorknobs, toilets, clothing, scissors and other tools and the like.

You are worrying needlessly.
