Started on PEP yesterday, coping and chances?
« on: November 10, 2013, 01:07:59 pm »
Synopsis:
- I was receptive anal
- protected sex
- condom did not break
- no ejaculation
- we only got to the point of penetration (no real movement)
- he is HIV positive
- reports viral load 97
- states taking meds reg.

I had sex with an individual who had said he was negative after being asked several times. After he left he forgot his phone and illegal or not by going through it, it was clear he is not negative.

I'm meeting with follow up Monday and counseling. I can't eat, get out of bed, or resume my normal activities I am so distraught.

What do you think the likelihood of me being negative is?

How can I cope for the next 4-6 weeks?

You did not have a risk ... absolutely no risk what so ever .

These are the risk factors for HIV .

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I wouldn't be worried if he wasn't an HIV positive male. You really don't think I have a risk?

He also stated he doesn't cum due to low testosterone… have you ever heard this?

If you had a risk we would have told you so . Many people are in long term relationships where one is poz and the other negative and guess what ? They have sex all the time and the other remains negative . They even have children together without transmitting HIV to the partner or the child . You are worrying over nothing .

You had no risk and no risk = no HIV .

CM,

You need to assume EVERYONE you have sex with is hiv positive and protect yourself accordingly by using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse. Asking a person their hiv status is pointless. Many people do not accurately know their hiv status and as you have discovered, some people will lie.

When people freak out over NO RISK situations like you have, is it any wonder that some people will attempt to hide their positive hiv status? It doesn't make non-disclosure right, but put yourself in their shoes. How would YOU feel if people freaked out because YOU were hiv positive?

If you're serosorting by taking someone's word that they're hiv negative and barebacking and if you're not testing regularly, you might already BE in their shoes. Think on.

If you ALWAYS use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, then you're doing all you need to do in order to remain hiv negative.

Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

You seriously DO NOT need PEP over this NO RISK situation.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!

Thanks Jeff and Ann,

I had follow up today and they took me off the PEP because they said it was a no risk situation and that addition testing would be adequate.

My baseline HIV test was negative.
