Worried

Hello!

First off, I would appreciate any advice you could give me.  About five months ago, I was out at a bar celebrating with some friends.  We all had a little too much to drink and we ended up meeting up with this group of random guys.  I ended up making out (deep french kissing) with one of the guys for about an hour.  I have no idea if he was infected or not, but I am worried now because I have a mild case of gingivitis, so my gums were raw.  If he had HIV and also had bleeding gums, could I have contracted HIV from him?  I have read many similar posts where the answer is No because you can't get it from saliva and even if there is some blood, it would be neutralized.  However, I have also read on the net that there has been a case where a male transmitted HIV to a female due to deep kissing.  Apparently he had bleeding gums.  Now I am really worried.  I noticed too, that the CDC does not recommend deep kissing due to the fact that it may be contracted through open sores in the mouth.  What do you think? Am I worrying over nothing, or should I get tested.  Thank you all for your advice.  I really appreciate it!

Shel,

There has never been a case of HIV being transmitted through kissing - deep or otherwise. Yes I'm aware of the case you cite, but I dismiss it as not true. People often lie about the risk behaviours they engage in.

The CDC in the US is notoriously conservative and a lot of the information it releases on HIV is influenced by the social agenda that is coming out of the current White House. It's a political agency.

You do not need to test because of this event. There is absolutely no chance that you can contract HIV from what you describe. Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

Thank you for your advice Rapid!  I forgot to mention with this incident, that I also had a cut on my lip, during the deep kissing.  The cut had bled earlier in the day, but it had not bled any that night, that I know of.  If the guy I was kissing, had a sore in his mouth, could the I have been infected with the raw area on my lip?  I'm worried.

Shel, the details you're adding on don't make any difference. Kissing is NOT a risk for HIV transmission. PERIOD.

You're worrying needlessly. Even if you were kissing someone who's HIV+, your saliva has elements which serve as a natural inhibitor which neutralize HIV if it's present.

Cheers,
