another new computer...
« on: June 26, 2014, 06:15:38 pm »
Short version: lol.

I bought a HP laptop last August and had nothing but problems from the get go. Wifi connection issues. It was sporadic at first so we thought we needed a new router. Bought a mediocre one. 30 day refund expired from Best Buy. Dealt with tech help in India for hours. No luck. Bought a better router. No luck. Put up with it for a couple more months before calling HP to ask for a refund.

Turns out they have the option of repair, replace, or "refund".

Sent computer back to them TWICE. No luck. "Upgraded" computer sent. Had issues of it's own. More tech talk and remote "fixes" tried. No luck. Sent a tech guy to the house. No luck. Asked again for a refund. Bought the original for $800. and they "offered" to "buy back" my computer for $500. I bitched loudly. Counter offer $600.

Said to myself enough is enough, I'll take it.

Bought a mac with 3 year applecare. More than I wanted to spend since money is tight but my sanity was more important.

It's been an adjustment since I really am a granny on these new fangled thingies but when I needed guidance the tech support was unbelievable. Nothing against the good folks in India but my hearing leaves something to be desired and accents make it all the more difficult. These apple guys are here and have the patience of saints.

Granted, there are plusses and minuses with a new operating system but I'm finding it was well worth the switch.

Enjoy your new Mac Mitch, some folks swear by it.  I have never worked on one so for me too it would be an adjustment.  Enjoy and keep on truckin'.

Glad you finally got that ridiculous situation resolved.  Will be looking forward to your updates on the mac.  I've considered switching too but am so fearful of completely learning a new operating system.  Hell, Windows 8 just about depleted what was left of my sanity and cognition.

I have an HP laptop and have not had any issues with it.  But maybe I got lucky.

I have never had a mac and would also have anxiety about trying to learn a new system suck as that.  Not that it is impossible, as you have proven, but you know how it goes, anxiety wise I mean.

I hope you continue to enjoy it!!  Glad your issues are resolved.

Speaking as one who would a line himself with Churchill,s view "I am easliy satisefied with the Best " buying a Mac makes good ecomomic sense , and in tech speak they look good. So why the doubt ? saving money is not about always buying the cheapest its about stealing too .

Happy Apple Mac devotee of 12 years now. Thank you.

I don't particularly understand having a laptop unless you do a lot of business travel but whatever.

Thanks everyone. Im still adjusting but it's easier than I thought it would be. If I can do it almost anyone can. Like I said, the tech people are amazing!

@Jolene- Do you really have emerald eyes? lol.

As for my reason for a laptop... I DO travel a lot, from my comfy sofa to my comfy bed. Another great feature is that it only weighs about 2 1/2 pounds! I only wish this model was available with a 15" screen.

They have one for $2000 -- but that's the pro line and I doubt you need something high-powered.

I think if you bought an AppleTV for $99 you can use wireless built in AirPlay technology to stream from your Mac to an HDTV assuming you own one.

I saw that one, and the price tag and no, i really don't need the extras.

As I never took typing and use the one fingered hunt and peck method I would become a bobble head using the TV.

Enjoy your mac.
My experience with applecare - and dealing with an Apple Store and not a registered dealer, a real Apple Store, is that they are extremely fair and fix everything with no hassles.

I still have a year to buy the extended warranty but haven't yet . Another thing I love about this mac is the long battery life .
