I was shocked....

While I don't believe a "gay panic" defense is specifically codified into law here in the US, it is often used as a defense tactic.  Which is ridiculous, and just serves to reinforce that there is something so horribly reprehensible about being gay that justifies murder.  Talk about stigma.

Let's think about this:  can gays use a "straight panic" defense if they murder someone?  No, of course not.

You shouldn't be if you were aware of a few times, as Henry noted, that gay panic has been used as a defense tactic in the U.S.

We kinda see the same sort of duplicity with sexual harassment being defined as "unwelcome" or "unwanted."

In other words, when Channing Tatum hits on you it's flattering and therefore perfectly legal... but if Steve Buscemi has the audacity to hit on you he's a pervert who needs to be placed on a sex offender registry.

It essentially criminalizes being unattractive.

Mix the concepts of gay panic and sexual harassment together, and apparently we should all be allowed to sue, beat, punish, or kill any hopeful suitor who we aren't physically attracted to.
