Real Scared
« on: March 10, 2007, 04:50:46 pm »
alright....i went on vacation to st martin and on feb 15th i went to a "whore house" and had protected oral and protected vaginal sex with a girl. she was on top and when i finished it happened quick so i keep goin for 15 or so more seconds to look cool. well when she got off the condom was broken! the thing that freaks me out is that i noticed she had bumps on her face and chest (kinda big bumps, looked like some sort of acne). so i was wondering, i know they say a symptom of hiv is a rash...does this sound like the type of rash it would of been. also i've been waking up with a sore throat lately, but it gets better throughout the day. this could easily be because its like 8 degrees here in CT but im so worried about this and its controlling my life. how worried should i be?

nest,

You need to know that you can't tell if a person has hiv by how they manke their living or by looking at them, because thinness, rashes, blotches or whatever can occur for a variety of different reasons. It doesn't matter who you have intercourse with, it matters how you do it.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man. While you have had a risk and do need to test, it isn't likely that you would become infected through a broken condom. It protected you up until the time it broke.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, so a test at that time would be an excellent indication of your true status, but must be confirmed with a conclusive test at the three month point.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

You need to be using condoms - with ANYONE, not just sex workers - for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence. A correctly used condom rarely breaks.

You do need to test, but I'm expecting you to come out of this ok hiv-wise.

thanks for the fast advise. the thing is i have some psychological problems....so i sometimes convince myself im sick when im not. so as soon as it happened i flipped out and convinced myself i had something. and of course, i hounded on it and felt some burning symptoms the upcoming days. i did get tested for gonnareah and chlamydia  but they came back negative (i only waited 4 days to get tested, is that too soon?)  but they came back negative....and surprise the burning went away. but i still had this weird feeling down there, so i started to worry again. so i got tested again and also got a urinary culture just incase its a urinary track infection and are waiting for the results. they also gave me some pills for "trich" just incase but now that im hounding on hiv, the other symptoms went away again.  im just having a really hard time dealing with this. i really appreciate all the feed back you give me

Nest,

You are highly unlikely to have been infected from this broken condom incident, but it is a remote possibility, hence the need to test. I DO expect you to come out of this ok.

It sounds like you may benefit from seeing a counselor about your tendency to think you're sick. That can be a terrible burden to lead your life under - but the good news is - you can overcome it with some professional help. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with that here, you need to see someone face to face. Your doctor can give you a referral to a qualified professional.
