Worried ..
« on: June 21, 2012, 02:33:28 pm »
Hi,

First of all, many thanks for the help and support you provide! I would like to ask you a couple of questions I have, based on my last risk encounter ..

Around 3 months ago I had sex with a CSW. We had ,protected, vaginal intercourse and for some seconds I did practice her oral, she did not ejaculate so far I can remember ...

Well, like 22 days (exactly) after this exposure, I started a sore throat (which could have been passed to me by a colleague at work who had been suffering from it for a long time) which went away, like 5 days after ..

Yesterday I felt I had a strange bump next to my right ear (behind it), and starting touching it, for a long time, worried, trying to understand what that was .. As a result now I have that part red, swollen and hurts, and after doing some google, it seems it is a lymph node (I rarely get swollen nodes) ..

Apart from this, I have not had any other symptom, such as weight loss, diarrhea, rash, fatigue, fever, or any other ..

So my questions are :

- Was I at any time, at any HIV risk? Do I need to get tested?
- If the sore throat was caused by HIV, is it infectious? I mean, can I pass that sore throat to someone? or would that be impossible?
- This issue about the lymph node, can be related to this exposure? Could I have "irritated" somehow, because of being touching, pressing it for a long time?

Many many thanks for your anwers and the support!

Kind Regards.

This sexual encounter does not represent a risk for the transmission of HIV.  What matters is that you used a condom during intercourse.  Having eaten her out, for a few seconds or not, does not represent a true risk.

Your symptoms are not related to this virus.  They can be caused by a common cold or any other infection that we don't address within these forums.

Please go on with your life and make sure to continue using condoms for all future penetrative vaginal or anal relations.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Rev. Moon!

Does this mean I do not even need to get tested?

Besides, just one question, if the sore throat was related to ars, would it be infectious? Would I be able to pass it to someone else or not?

I am aware, this might not be the scope of the forum, but I would much appreciate a reply on this ..

Many, many thanks once again for your reply.

You don't need to get tested based on this particular encounter.  As a sexually active person you should nonetheless get tested for sexually transmitted diseases at least once a year, especially since other things can be caught more easily.  But I must repeat, this encounter that you described did not put you at risk for HIV.

Your sore throat has/had NOTHING to do with ARS.  Would it be infectious?  Well, if it is a cold, flu, mono, laryngitis, or any other possible infection of course it might be contagious.  That is only logical.  But not for HIV.  Common courtesy and sense would tell you that if you have a sore throat you need to cover your mouth when you cough/sneeze (and you shouldn't be kissing or performing oral sex until it passes).  Other infections are easily transmitted to other people, HIV is not.  I have to repeat nonetheless, as it appears that you want to convince that this is HIV related, that it has nothing to do with our virus.

So let it go and move on with your life.

Thanks once again, for your comments on this Rev!

But just want to be sure, because I have not understood correctly .. Then, if the sore throat/pharyngitis was caused by hiv, I would not be able to pass this (sore throat/pharyngitis) to anyone, since it would not be infectious? am I right?

Sorry for insisting, and I understand you have more serious things/threads to worry about, but as I said, I would much appreciate if you could just clarify this to me (just a short answer such as yes/no would be more than enough).

Thanks a lot, once again!

Llavero,

NO, hiv is not transmitted through sore throats regardless of what is causing them.

You did not have a risk for hiv infection in the first place. Giving a woman oral sex is not a risk. Protected intercourse is also not a risk.

Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV SPECIFICALLY OVER PROTECTED INTERCOURSE OR GIVING A WOMAN ORAL, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Hi Ann,

Many thanks for your reply! But I believe there is some misunderstanding, regarding my question .. I know that hiv is not transmitted through sore throats .. I just want to know, if (in the case) the sore throat I had was provoked by the HIV, I would be able to pass this sore throat (not the HIV) to someone, In the case this has been provoked by the HIV infection!

Just want to know that in order to close completely this!

Many, many thanks once again, and promise not to continue with this if you can kindly help me out with this doubt I have ..

Best Regards!

Llavero,

NO.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned!

Hi once again,

I know I have been warned, and I had no intention in continuing this thread but I have been feeling a bit weird lately and would appreciate if someone could just help me out with this ..

First of all I am gonna get tested at the end of the month/starting september, because now in august it is kind of hard finding doctors and the prescription for the test ..

Besides, since the last time I posted here I have had strange sypmtoms I have never had in the past and would like to know if they are somehow hiv related (It has been 18 weeks since the incident took place) :

- Swollen lymph node , right behind the ear, for more than a month (I went to the doctor and told me it was fine, nothing to worry about).

- Strange sensation of sickness and feverish but no fever or sick, just a feeling and I have just had this, for the last months almost every day.

- Strange pain (sporadic) at the armpits and elbows.

- I also had pharyngitis 3 weeks post exposure and two weeks ago I had a cold, runny nose and throat ache, which lasted around a week (It is strange because I had been like years without cathing anything, not even a cold and right after this incident I fall twice).

I know I had a no risk situation, but maybe something took place I did not notice and ..?

Many, many thanks once again and sorry for disturbing!

You have been told repeatedly that you were not at risk for HIV.

You apologize and then you continue to come back with another what if about your situation. HIV is not your problem. If you have a physical concern, discuss it with your doctor.

I am giving you a 28 day Time Out which you have been warned about. Don't make the mistake of trying to get around it by creating a new account. We'll spot that right off and it will get you banned from here permanently. HIV is not your problem. Period.
