2 African Am Women to share their story

Hello Ladies
I am a clinical psychology PhD student, I'd like to do my dissertation on HIV/AIDS and most likely will.  Right now I am completing a project in which I need two volunteers (African American Women) to share their experience with me.  By experience I mean your story about how you contracted HIV/AIDS, what prompted you to get tested, your initial reaction, and any other information you feel is relevant to share.   It will start off in an interview type fashion but will evolve into a fluid conversation.  It will be done by phone, I don't need any identifying information except for your age and of course that you are an African American woman.  I believe you have a story that will help others, if you think so too please respond to this email.  I am looking forward to working with you!  ;D

Hmmm, and do I have a story to tell. I would love to help you. I think I qualify, I am African American, well half and the other half is Puerto Rican. But why does race even matter, we all have a story to tell. I wouldn't mind sharing mine with you but I wouldn't be able to do it by phone because I am hard of hearing and I get major feedback from holding a phone to my ear. Maybe someone else will be able to step up. Good Luck with your interview...

Maybe she still can use you. I think she is limiting herself by just making it African American women but maybe there is a reason for this. I dunno....

Hello Ladies
Actually I do agree that I am limited in this request.  Let me give you the reason this project must be done as such, I'm sure many others may have the same question so thanks for bringing it up.  I want to add that I believe this disease is something that needs to be approached in order to help ALL humans.  Unfortunately, I have to take a small chunk of the population and start from there.  When I graduate I assure you all that my research will be used to improve conditions for all, it's just that now being a student I'm quite limited  :-\ 

#1  According to the CDC: Of all racial and ethnic groups in the United States, HIV and AIDS have hit African Americans the hardest. The reasons are not directly related to race or ethnicity, but rather to some of the barriers faced by many African Americans.

#2  Also:  When we look at HIV/AIDS by race and ethnicity, we see that African Americans have more illness. Even though blacks (including African Americans) account for about 13% of the US population, they account for about half (49%) of the people who get HIV and AIDS.
Shorter survival times. Blacks with AIDS often don't live as long as people of other races and ethnic groups with AIDS.  For African Americans and other blacks, HIV/AIDS is a leading cause of death.   

#3  Among women, 64% of  women living with HIV/AIDS were black.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I would still love to help but as I mentioned, I can't do it by phone. Maybe by computer...You know like as in Yahoo Messenger has a voice chat where you can talk by mic and hear by computer speakers, now that would work for me and would prolly save you a few pennies when it comes to long distance...Just a thought...
