Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

There is no charge to read threads in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum, nor will there be a charge for participating in any of the other POZ forums. In addition, the POZ Basics "HIV Transmission and Risks" and "HIV Testing" basics, will remain accessible to all.

About to get tested- scared

I'm about to go get tested and I'm pretty freaked out.  I've been reading up about HIV for the past couple of weeks or so (it feels like forever) to try to motivate myself to get tested.  I've read some inspiring stories which have given me some courage.  But I still keep putting off being tested.  I'm really scared and just wanted to post this here to motivate me to go get tested.  I am praying that I will be HIV negative and everything will be ok.  I'm leaving now for the clinic... I feel embarrassed even to go there, but I know I shouldn't.  I will post when I get back, and I pray to be negative and healthy.  I'm freaked out because I don't even have health insurance right now.  I wish the best for everyone here.  Thank you for reading.

Whatever the test result, getting tested is the best thing you can do for your health. And everyone is scared when they get tested. You don't have to feel brave to get it done. Go in with knees shaking if necessary, but get it done.

You haven't mentioned why you think you need to test. Please clarify if you want to.

But get tested. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you for the response Andy.   Luckily my test came back negative.  I got tested because my current boyfriend has had some of the HIV symptoms (swollen lymph tonsils, sore throat, fever, etc.) for over a month now.  And he freaked me out and made me think I could have had it and given it to him.  I feel certain now that we are both HIV negative.  And he must have mono or something but I'm not sure why I haven't gotten it.

Thank you for reading.  From now on I vow not to take any more risks with my health.

Great, Mabel! Glad to hear about that happy result.

AND unless you two have both reliably tested negative together and are in a committed monogamous relationship, you should still be using condoms.
