Hi all:

When I feel like shit (The way I am feeling right now), I think in music...Given the fact that I am bisexual (with a very loved queer/gay side) -and quoting our beloved Carrie Bradshaw from Sex And the City- I couldn't help but wonder:

Which song represents best, what AidsMeds is for an HIV+?...And then, I got an answer...Cher... Please, take a moment to read these lyrics (and without considering if you are straight, gay, queer, boy, girl, cow, dog, oldie (+999) or young (<999) , whatever) think if they do not reflect what this place is for you...

A song for the lonely (Cher)
When you're standing on the edge of no where
Theres only one way up so your hearts got to go there
Through the darkest nights
You see the light shine bright
When heroes fall in love or war they live forever

(chorus)
This is a song for the lonely, can you hear me tonight?
For the broken hearted, battle scarred
Ill be by your side
And this is a song for the lonely
When your dreams wont come true
Can you hear this prayer
Because someones there for you

Though love dont need a reason
She can pick you up or leave you bleeding
Ive seen a strong man cry
I know the reason why
We all forgive, we all forget
We just keep believing

(chorus)
This is a song for the lonely, can you hear me tonight?
For the broken hearted, battle scarred
Ill be by your side
And this is a song for the lonely
When your dreams wont come true
Can you hear this prayer
Because someones there for you

Dont give up, so let it find you
Just hold on, wherever you may go
Anywhere, Im right beside you
You dont have to look no more
You dont have to look no more

(chorus)
This is a song for the lonely, can you hear me tonight?
For the broken hearted, battle scarred
Ill be by your side
And this is a song for the lonely
When your dreams wont come true
Can you hear this prayer
Because someones there for you

Its gonna be alright
Its gonna be alright
Its gonna be alright

Chorus
(repeat/mix a few times)

What do you think? Do we make an offical anthem? (We need to sing something at 3 am on the next AMG meeting somewhere in the world) :P

Alex, it is Eldon.

With that heart of yours, how can you be lonely? There is a time there is a place, and there is that special someone, just waiting to share a tear with you. It's going to be alright. You are not alone. We are right here with you.

Hey Alex...

There is a lot of meaning in the lyrics of that song. I think it should be considered the anthem.

I nominate as an anthem "You are the New Day", by the King's Singers (written by John David). The end verse is what I use as my signature. To listen click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH2W7tSGuT0

You are the new day

I will love you more than me
And more than yesterday
If you can but prove to me
You are the new day

Send the sun in time for dawn
Let the birds all hail the morning
Love of life will urge me say
You are the new day

When I lay me down at night,
Knowing we must pay
Thoughts occur that this night might
Stay yesterday

Thoughts that we as humans small
Could slow worlds and end it all
Lie around me where they fall
Before a new day

One more day when time
Is running out for everyone
Like a breath I knew would come
I reach for a new day

Hope is my philosophy
Just needs days in which to be
Love of life means hope for me
Born on a new day

For AMG 06, Dingo compiled a CD with songs some of us chose that we found were appropriate to show our feelings about AIDSmeds.

For me, he included "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge.   Jan chose "I don't know much, but I know I love you".   Lisa chose "Respect".   Rocky chose "Simply the Best". And my favorite was Danny's choice, "For Good" from the musical Wicked.

Amazing how music can be so uplifting isn't it?  Thanks again Dingo, I have just about worn my CD out I played it so often!

Hugs,

Alan

Don't you just love Cher?   Keep in mind this woman is 60 years old.   I'm sure that up close in the sunlight, she is not 'perfect', but DANG she looks good for her age!

I think of the French children's song "Au Claire de la Luna," mostly because it was played on the piano by Patty McCormack as Rhoda Penmark in "The Bad Seed," of my favorite Nouveau-Greek tragedies.  I cannot remember the lyrics now but they aren't inspiring at all... sorry.

On another tangent altogether, speaking of people like Cher, who have kept their amazing looks through numerous cosmetic procedures, I saw a Dolly Parton video shot in 2005 and Dolly doesn't have a damn wrinkle on her face or neck.  I imagine a big clip in the back of her big hair pulling all the skin from the front of her face.

Hey Jan...

I could not resist the surge of ENERGY that was running through me when you shared your nomination with US. I went as far as finding the lyrics for you! It IS A reason that this song was written and it IS A reason that it IS SPOT ON!!! Oh, does it send a message to US!

WwwwHhhhOoooTtt!!!

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE --- Gerry The Pacemakers
 (R. Rodgers - O. Hammerstein II)

When you walk through the storm
 Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
 There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

 Walk on, through the wind
 Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
 And you'll never walk alone
 You'll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
 And you'll never walk alone
 You'll never walk alone

As long as it isn't that song that goes, "We are family, I got all my sisters, blah, blah, blah."  I remember an article in the SF Chronicle about the 4 most mundane songs ever written, none of those will work either.  What are the 4 most mundane songs ever written?  So happy you asked...
1. Tie a Yellow Ribbon around the old oak tree
2. Do you know the way to San Jose
3. I write the songs
4. Raindrops keep falling on my head

Have the best day

Yes, I AM Supporting You

Hey Michael...

I was SPOT ON with that. It IS Barry Manilow who wrote that song and here are the lyrics:

Ive been alive forever,
And I wrote the very first song.
I put the words and the melodies together,
I am music,
And I write the songs.

I write the songs that make the whole world sing.
I write the songs of love and special thing s.
I write the songs that make the young girls cry.
I write the songs, I write the songs.

My home lies deep within you,
And Ive got my own place in your sole.
Now, when I look out through your eyes,
Im youg again, even though Im very old.

Chorus

Oh my music makes you dance
And gives your spirit to take a chance,
And I wrote some rock n roll so you can move.
Music fills your heart,
Well, thats a real fine place to start.
Its from me its for you,
Its from you, its from me,
Its a world wide symphony.

Chorus

I am music, and I write the songs.

Enjoy your Holiday Season and Thank you for sharing.

This is what Aidmeds (and it's members) says to me personally~

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3-6zkCBGNM

When darkness falls upon your heart and soul
I’ll be the light that shines for you.
When you forget how beautiful you are
I’ll be there to remind you.

When you can’t find your way, I’ll find my way to you.
When troubles come around, I will come to you.

I’ll be you shoulder, when you need someone to lean on .
Be your shelter when you need someone to see you through.
I’ll be there to carry you,
I’ll be there.

I’ll be the rock that will be strong for you.
The one that will hold on to you.
When you feel that rain falling down.
And when there’s nobody else around, I’ll be.

I’ll be the sun
When your hearts filled with rain.
I’ll be the one
To chase the rain away.

I’ll be.

Yep, plugging Reba again ;)

for me i can't help but think of Freddie Mercury and his death of AIDS would say "we are the champions" would be a fitting anthem.

For that matter, if 'Champions' could be an anthem, the entire 'Innuendo' album from Queen could serve as a soundtrack.  The final album prior to Freddy's death, the album reads like a diary of someone facing grave traumas and the unknown with fearlessness and dignity, and a reverence for the sweetness of both the living and the leaving.

It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp

In my eyes I done seen some crazy thangs in the streets
Gotta couple hoes workin on the changes for me
But I gotta keep my game tight like Kobe on game night
Like takin from a ho don't know no better, I know that ain't right
Done seen people killed, done seen people deal
Done seen people live in poverty with no meals
It's f#*cked where I live, but that's just how it is
It might be new to you, but it's been like this for years
It's blood sweat and tears when it comes down to this sh@t
I'm trying to get rich'fore I leave up out this bitch
I'm trying to have thangs but it's hard for a pimp
But I'm prayin and I'm hopin to God I don't slip, yeah

GLINDA
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you:

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

ELPHABA
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you:

GLINDA
Because I knew you:

BOTHI have been changed for good

ELPHABA
And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

GLINDA
But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

BOTH
And none of it seems to matter anymore

GLINDA ELPHABA
Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
From orbit as it Off it's mooring
Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
Through the wood Bird in the wood

BOTH
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?

GLINDA
And because I knew you:
ELPHABA
Because I knew you:

BOTH
Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.
