Traveling to Colombia HIV+
« on: February 02, 2014, 09:08:12 pm »
Hi everyone,

Next week I am going on vacation with my partner to Colombia.  He's HIV+ and it never even occurred to me that they might still have restrictions on people with HIV.  Anyway, I've been reading and reading and reading, and the answers all range from "he won't have any problems" to "he needs forms from the consulate" to "he won't be allowed in."  He doesn't need a visa to get into the country so I don't think he will have any problems there, but I am scared that if they inspect his bags they'll see the Atripla pills (he's bringing about 12 with a letter from his doctor stating they are necessary) and make the connection.

I found this thread about the topic but it's from 2010:  http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=32736.0

Has anybody been there recently and know if he'd have any difficulties getting through immigration/customs??

Hi, Jeff.  Both the title of the board and the sticky at the top said that particular forum is for those living with HIV and those affected by it.  Since we're a couple and we're traveling together, I feel like it has a pretty strong influence on my life, too.

In any case, this forum gets significantly less traffic than the "Living with HIV" forum, so I'm not as hopeful I'll get a response here.  I guess I'll just have him make his own account and post the question again if that follows your rules more closely, but it seems kind of silly to me.  Just my $.02 though.

The living with HIV forum is a place for those living with HIV as in living with the virus ... we have the women's for just for women and we have the LTS for forum for those who tested before 96 so its not just the Living with forum that has restrictions on who can post .

We are glad you are here and hope you continue to post in someone I care about so you can get the support and information you need . Best of luck .

http://aids.about.com/od/legalissues/a/travelac.htm

Found this and multiple websites say that a waiver must be requested from the Colombian embassy. They may not put one and one together but you don't want your trip ruined.
