Title: Dreading going into work tonight..
Post by: J.R.E. on March 16, 2009, 08:22:14 pm
 :-\

Last night I set off the General fire alarm in the building that I work in. I was microwaving some popcorn, and the bag got a little hot. We just installed a new fire and smoke alarm system in the building, and they have one just above where the microwave is. There was never one in that place. Anyway, the small amount of smoke went up into the smoke detector and set off the general alarm in the building. I now how several hundred residents calling me all at once ( at 1:30 AM) wondering what was going on ! Ouch...

The two guys I work with Silenced the alarm before the fire company arrived. ( there not supposed to silence the alarm until the fire dept give the go ahead.( even though everything was under control) Another big ouch.

I just called work a few minutes ago, they removed the microwave from the area that it was in. The microwave should never have been there after the new system was installed. It's a very small space.
All I know, is the boss ain't happy. We"ll see what happens at 10:00 , when I go into work tonight.

I never got to eat the popcorn !  :P

Good luck at work!

Ray  you can push the real cause of the alarm...someone allowed the microwave where it shouldn't have been  that's what caused the alarm  find another scapegoat..maybe the supervisor that allowed the placement  of that oven

I agree  popcorn from  the micro  causes cancer.....

Well,  Everything went well last night. The daytime shift played it a little joke, and left me a bag of popcorn, with smiley faces on it and told me to "Enjoy"   ::)

They did remove the microwave, and in the future, the employee break room has to be used for all microwaving. Which was expected.

The big boss was reviewing the video tapes that run 24/7, to try to make a determination as to who actually pushed the "Reset Button" on the fire panel, but could not really tell, as it wasn't the best view from the camera angle.  They were reprimanded though. As expected the residents moaned and groaned about the 1:30AM wake up call.  One resident came down last night and said she's just glad that the system did what it was supposed to do. She didn't have a problem.

My immediate supervisor ( not the big boss) was relieved, when I told her I didn't touch the panel !!

And so life goes on... The drama for the day is over !

Hey Ray,

Glad you didn't get in trouble at work. Sounds like you are well liked.

At AA, they banned popcorn in the microwave as every time the alarm went off we had to evacuate the building...

nothing like standing in a far parking lot with hundreds of people, in the winter, and it's cold and the wind is blowing....many of the 'feistier' women would hang out in the doorways until the fire department gave the ...

..."All Clear"

..being in management, I had to force them out into the wind....I was 'out' at work, so I would be fussing just as loudly about the cold and the wind 'mussing up' my hair. :D
