START Study-Meds

I am recently enrolled in the START study which is studying when people should start meds.  on Friday I get randomized and will either start meds or not.  I have been positive since jan. 2010 and my tcells have all been above 500.  The highest viral load was 70000 and now it's at 11000.  If I start meds, my doctor gave me the option of atripla or the combination of truvada, reyataz and norvir.  Anyone have any recommendations? I've been reading a lot of posts and it seems it is all running together now.   Thanks everyone for your help!  New to the site!

i think i would do the Atripla route.  i've heard side effects with norvir are more prevalant.  I take Atripla and it seems to be working well for me...one pill a day before bed.  or possibly the new drug Edurant, Truvada combo.

Hey Sherman. Welcome to the forums.

I wanted to particpate in the START clinical trial as well, but where I am it seems unlikely since the only hospitals that are partaking in the study are not in my city.

Thanks for your input.  My doctor said she is ok with any, it all depends on what I want for side effects, if I end up having any.  I've never had any problem with any meds before.

Where do you live?  It was such a hard decision to make even just to join the Study.  I'm happy I did it though..

I am in Delhi, India (North India). I know there's one hospital in Pune (West India) and 2 in Chennai (South India) particiapting in the START study. I rang them and they told me it won't be possible for me to participate due to my domicile.

Have you decided if you will be starting meds or not?

Choose Atripla. One pill -> once a day!

Hi Sherman- Do you know know why they did not offer Isentress & Truvada?

A good question, the study protocol permits all licensed antiretroviral medications.

Hi there.  I'm really not sure.  My doctor suggested those to me.  UPDATE:  I was chosen to be in the deferred group, so I won't be starting meds.  I will ask her next time I see her about that combo though.
