First Lab Results after starting Treatment
« on: November 12, 2009, 10:47:18 pm »
I was diagnosed as HIV+ about six weeks ago after going to by doctor for feeling tired all the time.  He discovered my WBC was low and sent me to a hematologist.   I've gotten physicals every year for the last decade and always came out fine, but since I'm not in a so-called "high risk group" my doc never did an HIV test.

Apparently I've had it for a long time because my initial labs were:

CD4 count:  58
Viral Load:  1.5 million (whatever that means, I know it's really high).

3 weeks ago I started a regimen of Epzicom, Norvir, and Prezista and just got the following results back:

CD4 count:  196
Viral Load: 1500

I found this to be encouraging as I didn't expect the CD4 count to rise so dramatically (not to mention the drop in viral load).

Has anyone had similar results after 3 weeks of treatment?  I'm just hoping these numbers weren't lab errors.

Awesome improvement Thomas.  Very encouraging indeed; I wouldn't believe that there was any error.

I had quite similar results after stating treatment (though I actually began while still undergoing seroconversion). My initial VL was 1.4 million and went down to 1497 after 20 days of being on Atripla.  The CD4 went from 425 to 525 (and the % nearly doubled).

Ain't meds just wonderful :)

Thanks for the reply.  Sounds like our initial results are similar. We are definitely lucky to have this illness at a time when it can be treated.  Can't imagine what the folks 20 years ago went through with this diagnosis.
