Story here:

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/US/06/30/va.hospital.hiv/index.html?fbid=7Bu8P5B0Yxa

"Dr. Gina Michael, the association chief of staff at the hospital, told the affiliate that some dental technicians broke protocol by handwashing tools before putting them in cleaning machines.

The instruments were supposed to only be put in the cleaning machines, Michael said."

I don't see how the extra washing puts anyone at risk of contracting anything.  Anyone have any clarification on this?

Wasn't there a recent story about the VA not cleaning colonoscopy tools before using them on other patients and some people did contract Hep or HIV????  Or, did no one come up poz?  I may have some of the details wrong.  Wasn't there also a hospital in Vegas that exposed people to Hep and HIV by reusing equipment?

They weren't being lazy though.  In fact they were doing extra work by washing the instruments more than once.  I'm really not sure how this constitutes a risk of transmission, thus my earlier post.

 ???

So someone correct me if I am wrong.  They handwashed the dental tools first, then they followed up by placing the handwashed tools into ( I presume ) an Autoclave.

How would this put any one at risk. I do understand that this is not proper procedure though.

It seems to me, the those that could possibly be at risk, were the ones that were handwashing the dirty tools, especially if they were handling the tools without gloves.

And no matter what, there was no risk for hiv infection. Hep C maybe, but definitely no hiv. Stupid idiots; all these years of this pandemic and they still can't get their heads around the fact that you don't get hiv in this sort of way. Pisses me off no end, and it should piss the rest of you lot off too. It's a no-fucking-brainer if you know the science of hiv transmission.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Ann , Are you saying reusing needles will not pass on HIV ?
I am pretty sure that it has been shown  it does !
Most large cities give out free NEW  needles to drug users !

And certainly the way they shuffle people threw  flu clinics it MAY happen .

The same goes for Dentests that have been prosecuted and jailed for GIVING  HIV to people ! ,
just to be hateful because they were infected !

                                                Just MY thoughts ,
