Robert, honey, we both know it wouldn't matter if he was cross-eyed or not. Remember, I was with you in Mexico City - and San Francisco - and Montreal.

apologies firstly to Philly as this guy is a twink, but just wanted to post re his success. He just won gold in the 10 metre platform diving. He's Australia's first openly gay Olympic athlete. His last dive scored the highest ever at the Olympics. good on him.

Yes Fearless, I was just going to post about Matthew Mitcham, a gay Australian diver coming from behind in the standings with the most wonderful dive and really pulling an upset to shock the crowd in China by winning the gold medal !!!

He is on the cover of the most recent Advocate magazine, Issue 1013 and a nice article, he seems like a very nice, sweet young man, and a great bod and cute face to go with enormous talent as well.

I was so happy for him.

hey steven....

I think you mentioned something about Matthew last spring but I'm glad you brought it up again.  I had forgotten.  I loved watching the diving but I got so pissed.  Just as Matthew completed his dive and they showed the scores, my screen went blank ~~ !!.  Someone at the local affiliate must have tripped over the cord.   When it came back on they were running the mens 4X400 relay.  So I missed all the replys of Matthew's dive and the reaction of the Chinesse.  Of course, since Matthew is an Aussie, they didn't show the awards ceremony.  In fact, they only showed 3 of his dives but all of the American's who didn't place higher than 7th I think.

Yeah, he might be a twink, but I'm so proud of him and all you Aussies.

Twink or not, Matthew Mitcham's diving gold has to be the major upset of the Olympics.  It's the only diving event the Chinese didn't take gold.  NBC never mentioned he was gay.  Here's an interview with him, along with his mother and boyfriend, after the medals ceremony.

Hey Robert - You might be able to find some clips on YouTube.

MM is a "muscle twink" and good as gold and his gold hair matches too :)

It was a good Olympics overall, very enjoyable.

Here's link to NBC's video of the last three climactic dives.  (NBC won't allow any clips on YouTube.)  You'll also find there a video of Mitcham's medal ceremony (even though NBC didn't broadcast it); watch it all the way through.  At the end it shows him climbing up the stands to kiss his mother and boyfriend (although one wouldn't necessarily know that's who it is).
