Hi,
Please experts help me understand. On one side i hear that hiv is normally transfered via sex as inside the body is the perfect environment and outside air, oxygen etc damages it. How is it possible then for someone to catch it from a poz drug user where, for instance, they may stand on a neddle hours later and still catch it?

Did you have a needle stick injury ? . I have never heard of a case where a person was infected from stepping on a needle or syringe .
HIV is fragile and damaged easily by changes in temperature and wouldn't be viable to infect a person with HIV after a very short time . It could very well transmit Hepatitis but not HIV .

Hiv is transmitted through recreational drug use ONLY when two people are sharing injecting equipment, and the poz person uses the needle first and the other person uses the needle IMMEDIATELY after the poz person.
People who inject drugs inject directly into a vein and therefore the blood stream. A random poke rarely directly hits a vein.
There has NEVER been a documented case of hiv infection through someone stepping on or otherwise getting stuck by a discarded drug-user's needle. It's an urban myth and nothing more.
Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.
To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.
Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.
Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and don't share drug injecting equipment, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Could sone please explain how hiv infection can occur with needles. People keep saying its fragile and destroyed when out of the body. Needles are exposed to air and therefore the virus should get destroyed even if they were shared?

At no time in the entire history of HIV infection has is been transmitted through any form of fingering. Your cut was sealed, obviously - and the fluids you encountered during fingering are not even infectious. They emit from the Bartholin glands located on either side of the vaginal wall. They are lubricating fluids.
In an HIV positive female, infectious fluids are found far deeper in the cervical mucosa. These thick fluids DO NOT migrate (and HIV cannot remain viable in the fluids emitted where your finger encounters) and are only accessible by one of the MOST vulnerable areas of the male body; the tip of the urethra.
You had absolutely no risk in the situation as you described it. And if you wear a condom for penetrative vaginal and anal sex you will avoid HIV. It really IS that simple.

Please re-read your entire thread. We've already told you what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection. If fingering were a risk, we would have advised you to wear latex gloves while fingering. It's not a risk, so no special mention of fingering is needed.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!

You have posted outside of this thread three times now and have been warned twice already . I'm giving you a warning if you ever do it again you will be giving a 28 day time out . Enough is enough , you did not have a risk so read this thread over if you need reassurance .
