Argo
« on: October 14, 2012, 11:14:14 am »
Went and seen this movie last night and it was fantastic.  Ben Affleck was great in this movie and quite sexy if i may say so.  I wasn't quite sure how i would like this movie, but I would recommend it to anyone if you haven't seen it already.

It was a good political learning experience, i was about 10yrs old when these folks were released.

Tthe bf and I are going to see it this week.  The trailer looks great,  I hope the film lives up to my expectations.

My mind went in a totally different direction when I saw the word Argo and I had a flashback to many years ago when my Mother and Aunt would eat Argo startch straight from the red and white box to satify their cravings:

I will probably go see this sometime in the next couple of weeks. I want to see The Master as well.

I had high hopes for The Master......SUCKED!! Great performances by ALL the cast but they could not make up for the story.

 I'd stick with Argo

We saw Argo on Friday night -- very well done movie.  Definately worth seeing.  Ben has really turned out to be a decent actor and a pretty good director too.
I may read the book now to see exactly how Hollywood changed it, as it was "based on a true story" - I really don't remember this back in 1980, so can't pull on my memory here.

I had to google Argo, but when I read about it I did remember it. It happened during the Carter Administration and I think the whole Iran hostage crisis thing was one of the reasons he lost the 1980 election to Reagan Raygun.

sidenote - Reagan was elected on my 18th birthday. I was living in off-campus student housing at KSU at the time and we had a combined bd/election party that night - and it turned into the worst bd party ever as the election results started coming in. What a depressing night! :-\

On another note, Obama was elected on my 46th birthday. The next time a presidential election falls on my bd will be in 2036, when I'm 74 - if I'm still here.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

I'd completely forgotten about this event. And the movie was terrific. The full house audience laughed many times in a knowing way that seemed to me to reflect a knowing and perhaps cynical awareness after all we have lived through in the years since those events.

Affleck deserves lots of credit for doing such a good job behind and in front of the camera. He's wearing a better hairpiece these days too.

People do seem pretty much take it for granted there's all kinds of agency skullduggery going on these days.

This was a great movie. You could just tell that certain scenes were dramatized for the sake of cinema, but it was done extremely well still. Affleck acted superb.
