Rough Seas - Update
« on: October 17, 2006, 09:55:54 pm »
This is a tough post for me to make, but I feel like I am ready to make it, so here goes:

Some of you may recall that I met someone special earlier this year.  I made some posts about our first dates, and how Fang the cat was behaving around him. We have become extremely close over the past 3 to 4 months.  Like me, he has a 20+ year history with HIV, and the myriad of health issues that entails.   Two weeks ago, I took him to have eye surgery at the Eye Foudation Hospital in Birmingham; it was to be a "routine" procedure, removal of a melanosis on his left eye.  Local anesthesia only, no big deal....or so we thought.   Last Friday, we received the biopsy report.   He has malignant ocular melanoma.

Tomorrow, he sees a trio of specialists, an Oncologist, Dermatologist and the Opthalmologist who performed the procedure.   Together, they will determine the next course of action and hopefully answer some of the many questions we have regarding his prognosis, treatment plan, etc.

I refuse to believe that God/The Universe has brought us together without a purpose.   If you think of it, please remember us in your prayers.

Alan  :'(

I know how hard it was for you to post this.  But this isn't something you have to face alone.  You'll have friends standing right beside you as you travel the road ahead.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

You will both be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as you get more information.  Whatever the future holds, we'll cross those bridges together when they are in front of us.  Until then. . . . . .

I love you my friend,

RAB

Dearest Alan...I just want to say that anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of meeting you has not had the opportunity to meet a very special and totally real and unpretentious man.

That being said I too will say a prayer that your special someone pulls through this just fine and the news will be better than it may seem right now.

Here's positive energy flowing your way my dear friend and best wishes.

Alan, dear baby, yesterday was a special day for all of us because the Earth received a unparalleled cosmic radiation/cosmic opening.  It was a special day for thanksgiving, suppilication and congregation.
And,  since most of the time I am at loss for words in these kinds of situation, all I did was say your names more than a hundred times.  Every single time I would say both names and, in the end, I would add "I love you!"
Be strong, sweetheart, we are all with you in this struggle.

Love,
Val

Thank you so much everyone, for the love and support, and pm's and phone calls.

We can get through this.  Sickness and disease has taken so much from me during my lifetime -- both my parents to cancer, so many friends and loved ones to AIDS, and also robbed me of a good portion of my own life.   I suppose if it weren't for the bad times, I would not appreciate the good times I have had nearly as much as I do.   I am thankful, so very thankful, for the good days.

I wish for more good days ahead for all of us.

with love,

Alan

Hi everyone.

This evening, I am relieved to report that after a long day, we have learned that he is going to be o.k., after one more surgical procedure next Tuesday.

His vision should not be affected, and there will be no radiation or chemo required.

I really appreciate all the support, prayers and good wishes from all of you.   I really do think prayers are answered, and in this case, I have proof!

Sometimes I wonder if total ignorance would be bliss - stepping off this roller coaster we call life. The feeling quickly passes despite all the shit we have to endure. So glad for you two that things seem to be coming into the station for a time.

*hugs*

Alan,

You especially recognize the power of prayer and healing.  I am relieved to hear your good news.  I have been and will continue to keep you in my prayers because I know how important they are to our well-being.  After hearing your story in Montreal (well, on the way to Quebec City) I have to rank you among the most extraordinary and courageous persons I have ever had the good fortune to meet.  Wishing and praying for you and your partners continued health and happiness....

Alan sweetie,

Dan and I are praying for the two of you.
It makes me mad and helpless when I hear stuff like that.

Hope ther will be no permanent damage.

Dear Alan,

haven't been here for some days. Dammit you must have been afraid. I am glad that there is good news for both of you, that it isn't as serious as you feared. I am so glad!

Big hug

We got the best possible news today.   The malignancy was completely removed surgically, the margins are clear.   No need for chemo or radiation at this time.

Thanks everyone, for your prayers and notes of support.   It has helped me tremendously.

Love,

Alan
