travelling right after test results coming back positive

Hi!
I've had sex with a person I didn't know was hiv-positive. We wore a condome but it broke. 2 weeks later I got really really sick, all the symptoms like swollen glands (still swollen), fever, rash, sore throat and sore body. Then he called me saying he was positive and I should get tested.
I called the infection-clinic in my city who are specialist on HIV, and they told me I am most likely infected with HIV. I have time for testing on wednesday, and it will take a week to get the test result back. It's just that I have planned and booked a trip to Asia for 3 weeks and are suppossed to leave just 4 days after my test result is getting back.... Can you people who have this experience, advice me if you think I will be able to travel far far away just after I got a bad test result??? Do you think I can manage...If I get councelling 4 days before leaving to Asia. I am gonna go to Asia just to relax and have some quiet time on the beach, do yoga and meditation. Do you think I can make it without gettins insane and want to kill my self over there?

It was very irresponsible of the spokesperson of the clinic you called to tell you that you are "most likely infected."

Actually your risk was very low for infection. As the insertive partner you were automatically at significantly less risk than the receptive partner. The condom protected you until it broke. Given that this was a single incident the odds are in your favor that you will test negative.

As for your symptoms, there is nothing HIV specific about them. And neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms will ever tell you anything accurately about your HIV status. Only an HIV test taken at the proper time will give you that answer.

From what you have written I am not sure how long ago the incident took place. However, the average time to seroconversion is 22 days. All but the smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure. For a conclusively negative result you do need to test at 13 weeks. But if you get a negative at 6 weeks it's a very good likelihood that you will continue to test negative.

As far as "killing yourself" and all of that, keep in mind there are lots of people on this site living with HIV. It's insulting to them to speak of HIV as something intolerable. Of course no one wants to get it, but if it happens, life does go on. It just goes on with some changes.

In the meantime based on what you have reported I expect  you to come out of this ok.

Hi kiran dont worry i sure you wil test negative o.k just belive god and your self sure u wil be nagative. Hiv wil not come automatically and it is not mandatory or rules that you should get infected because your partner is positive dont accept what your doctor said just test on 6th to 8th week for good indication again  in 12\13 week for conclusive result. Don't simply think about hiv just Belive that u wiil be negative
